What's the most valuable piece of plastic you've ever seen?

What's the most valuable piece of plastic you've ever seen? In other words, tell us about a coin that would be worth a whole lot less if it were removed from its slab. A good example MIGHT be the 1963 PR70RD DCAM Lincoln, but I'll bet some of you can top that!

A certain twenty cent piece is valued $50k more in the holder than it sold at auction raw....

I would think the 53-S franklin, when it sold for ~70K, would qualify. Then it resold for half, so now it ranks below the 63 cent. Many, many coins derive nearly all of their value based on the paper insert, but I cannot think of one quite like the 63 cent.

That coin definitely comes to mind along with every other MS/PF 70 in existence.

That would be the stuff they used to build the whale tank in Star Trek IV, The Voyage Home.

(Yeah, I know, but transparent aluminum my ass).

If silicone counts as "plastic," I'd have to refer you to last year's Ms. October.

In person a few coins worth a few hundred.

On ebay there is a 1916-D Mercury with an asking price of $16,750.

The coin would probably bring the same $4 million today, raw. 1804 dollars are graded on a different scale. But that's a story for another thread. image
