Neveda wants to mint it's own silver coin

In the April 21 edition of CoinWorld there is an article about Nevada Silver miners lobbying for the state to mint their own $20 silver coins which will be legal tender in the state.

Anybody think it stands a chance?

I don't know what the legalities are, but save that, it could be a cute concept.
  • Do not think it will happen - The states gave up their rights to mint coin to the Federal government.

The Constitution forbids this, at least for interstate commerce. That's one of the reasons why the state coinage disappeared in the late 1780s. Within the state I think you would see some court battles, and that the state would ulitimately lose.

Zero chance of it happening. Unless they secede.

I don't want to predict what will happen. I do think it will be very interesting.

If the federal government reactivated the Carson City mint, this would be possible. This is a good idea although I doubt they would circulate much.
