The toning is real, but there is nothing special about it. Nowadays it seems that any natural toning is good toning, which is an idea to which I do not subscribe. Natural toning (in fact most of it, which makes pretty toned coins more expensive) can be as ugly as h.---. That’s one of the reasons why so many coins have been dipped.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
Looks suspect to me, though not that it matters - as wise Mr. Jones said, its not very attractive. I guess if someone did AT it they should at least try to do it 'pretty'.
I don't know, on this one I would probably need to see it up close. Either way, as others have pointed out, it isn't that attractive, at least in my eye.
Russ, quit the atitude with me. Everyone knows you hate me, you're just making it blatantly obvious. I've never been a self proclaimed expert on the subject. I just know a little about it. Excuse me for just saying my OPINION.

I don't hate you. Matter of fact, I'm fervently anticipating the posting your repeatedly promised images of the wonderful toning work that you've bragged about.
I have far from bragged about it. I just simply did an experimental project with coins and heat, and nothing more. It was simply a project so I can protect myself from buying ATed coins. Instead you decide to spam these boards with countless threads on "Is this AT?" subjects.
PS: You do hate me, just admit it.

Agreed.... take Gsa CC toned Morgans for example that I happen to collect. Most I've seen are not the vibrant colors we see on other Morgans. Don't get me wrong there are some nicely toned Gsa's and I have a few but they aren't so common. Maybe something to do with the minting in Carson City but I'm not sure.
Russ this Morgan is a tough one to tell from the image and as Frattlaw pointed out you don't see too many nicely toned 1921 out there. I did see one that Board member Strat had at the Santa Clara show and it was a beauty. Very vibrant kind of gold and sparkely.
Now your grape Morgan you posted before I would say it's a bad coin, as well as the penny.

It was interesting to watch the dynamics of this poll. Early on, "The real deal" was leading "Phony as hell" by a 6 to 1 margin. A couple key people weigh in with their opinion, and that suddenly shifted, and it ends up being a 1.5 to 1 margin. Curious.
I wonder what the poll results would have been if I'd posted this image first:

I think it's AT personally. Why is there a freaky area of nontoning on the reverse?(irregularly shaped) Probably made by a liquid.

There were others. They just didn't click that option.
