I might be the next Frankaholic!--scored one, two!

All the discussion of Frankies on these boards has stimulated some interest for me. I have ordered the Tomaska book, bid on a few proofs on ebay (none more than $40), and I am ready to get rolling. Ironically, I have two complete mixed-grade sets of Frankies, one from my boyhood collection and the other inherited.
A question for the Frankophiles, how does one choose to collect business strikes vs. proofs? Or, obviously, both!
Finally, the best thing about Frankies may be all the great, fun words you can make with the Frank- prefix (Frankaholic, Frankophile, Frankopolooza, etc).

Frankly, it would be a nice diversion for me while I wait for an affordable 1879-O $20 to turn up.

2 more auctions pending tonight.

Mint state pieces are neat because for can get some really beautiful toned pieces. Look for the ones with pretty toning, not the ones with dark ugly toning.

Thanks for all the advice and encouragement. The thread with the treatise on Frankies by Lucy (Franklin Halves 101} is especially terrific.

You're getting some good advice from the forum. Personally I've stayed with the business strikes as they're hard enough on their onw. When you read Tomaska's book you'll see that he covers every year and mint in great detail, so you will be able to discern which are the best buys and such.
One note of interest for you - check the back of your '56 proof. There are two varieties - a type I and a type II. The type 1 has an eagle with very little detail on the feathers, the type II will have an eagle which will look more like your 61 and have lots of feather details. If you have a type I it'll be worth significantly more than the type II. Good luck - I know you will enjoy Frankies.

Any chance that the Frankaholic diagnosis was an error? Could it be that you really suffer from Frankaphobia and need different treatment? As part of the treatment check out the thread "Dull is Dead" and look at the 1944 WLH every 4 hours... we all wish you a speedy recovery.
(this post was only intended to continue the use of Frank as a part of a new word...as suggested in the original post. Nothing further should be read into this and it is for mere entertainment purposes...perhaps bad entertainment, and yes, I am keeping my day job)

I certainly appreciate the spirit of the post; in fact, I enjoyed it very much.
On another thread, it has been suggested that instead of collecting Frankies, I avoid Frankies. In order to get Frankies out of my system, music therapy has been suggested-- a lot of Frankadelic music including the Frankful Dead--followed by a radical Frankectomy (taking all of my Frankies, including the two new proofs, and selling them to a coin dealer in Frankfurt, KY. Frankly, I think this is very aggressive therapy frought with dangerous side effects (dermatofrankopathy--one's skin develops a red, flat, itchy rash that looks like, well, you know what and gastrofrankitis--a diarrheal condition characterized by bowel sounds that one cannot distinguish from the ringing of the Liberty Bell.
I hope that this post clarifies my position on the matter (without offending anyone or making them ill).

I have a few Franklins of my own but they look nothing like the ones that you posted...exceptional in every way. Great eye Lucy Bop.
RYK:
Good use of Frank... I like the reference to music therapy and the Frankadelic sounds that must have its origins in Philly and not San Francisco.

My 18 month old daughter, for the last nine months, has had blond/light brown hair, very little on the top and more on the back, and we have been calling her "Ben Franklin". Perhaps, I should put a set together to give to her when she gets older.
My little Ben Franklin...
And if you don't, then your a big SQUARE!
