ERRRR! Set registry cert number thieves!

I recently had someone take a cert number from an auction where I had bought a Sacagawea. They were trying to get PCGS to remove it from my set so they could put it in their set. PCGS's service was great and very helpful. I gave her pictures of the coin as evidence, and she straightened it out right away.

Now one of my customers can't put his PR69DC silver Kennedy I sold him last week in his registry, because someone has snagged the cert number from the auction page. Ive dropped a note to PCGS, and I'm sure they'll be great as always, but sheesh! Why are folks doing this? I've heard of this more and more lately.

I had a recent purchase denied for my registry set as it was listed elsewhere. One email to PCGS and it was cleared up within two days. Kudos to PCGS on their fast response.image

But, what about poor people who can't afford to actually buy the coins? Don't they have the right to participate in the registry?

Stealing cert#s? That's just lame beyond measure.
  • I'm going to start deleting my full-slab images from my server when the customer has received their coins (I'll leave the O and R pictures up).

What's funny is the "other person" who protests that the coin is theirs... image

Sounds like some among us have SARS (Severe Acute Registry Syndrome)! Hope it doesn't become an epidemic!

When I listed a bunch of PR70DCAMs on E-Bay I blurred the cert number out for this very reason. If a buyer wanted it, I would E-Mail it to them.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

Sheesh, what a bunch of boobs.
Don't you registry folks have your own playground?

So what is wrong with a virtual collection? I think it is a hoot. image
The most money I made are on coins I haven't sold.

    Got quoins?

Big deal. I had to email them twice in the last two weeks because I could not enter the coins I had in hand. A few days later they said it was okay. If somone feels they need to list a coin they do not have, it is no big deal to me. If you try to list it, PCGS will take care of it. No problem, not like I had to send them the coin to show I had it.

To many coins out there (just hit 8,000,000 PCGS coins, modern collectors call this extremly rare. But, if you put these in PCGS boxes and stacked them end to end it would be a line of boxes almost 57 MILES long). Can't block them all. Why try?
