Why are MastroNet auctions never mentioned?

krankykranky Posts: 8,709 ✭✭✭
Just wondered why I never see any discussion of MastroNet auctions. They advertise in Coin World and apparently have sold at least a few very rare pieces. My impression is that they don't have auctions exclusively for coins (they sell other collectibles as well), and maybe that's why.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

They also advertise in The Numismatist and, according to them, sold a Honus Wagner for $1.265 million.

If you don't know anything about them, then it would be best not to talk trash.

MastroNet is the King of sports collectibles auctions. He has several $7 or $8 million sports auctions a year. He has amazing sports stuff...the very best of the best.

As to coins, he is just dabbling, but does have a few nice things.

They are a well run, high class company.

    Karl,

They don't call them bubblegum cards anymore. Stop denigrating the collecting choices of others.

Here's an example, Karl. A 1952 Topps baseball set sold for over $240,000

    Kranky,

You would have to post that. Among my childhood card collection that was destroyed by fire, I had three '52 Topps Mantles.

The Mastro family of auctions also sold the famed Rosa Parks bus (found nearly disintegrated in the middle of a field!!!) that was purchased by a museum for about $500,000 -- and I think it is soon to be fully restored and opened for display in the museum.

MastroNet is the king of the sports collecting market...
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Sorry, bud. I wouldn't have done it intentionally. My cards (which only went back to '61) got tossed out by Mom, and I could rationalize that because she didn't know what she was doing and you can't hate Mom. image But losing them in a fire would be tough to take.

    Karl,

That price was for the entire set. The Mickey Mantle (#311) in 10, (all the cards in the above set were graded 8), would be worth about what that entire set sold for.
