OOPS forgot. It's a dollar. Wish that was all I paid for it. Course that would make me a couple hundred years old.

Very nice. It is better than many I have seen. I like it and think at a minimum it would grade VF35 and perhaps EF40. If you submit this one, please consider posting the grade...

  • Howdy! That sure is a beaut! It won't grade XF, but should be at least a high-end VF. I love those bust dollars!

I liked this coin and thought it would grade VF35 to EF40... the grading Gods were on your side, and by saying that please don't think that you were given a gift because this is a great looking coin and I am willing to concur that the three graders at PCGS who actually saw the coin and not the scan got this one right. Nice coin with a great result.

Topstuf- A really nice coin. I had not seen the thread back in the beginning of the month. Did the coin go to NGC?

Not exactly my series, but employing general grading principles it sure looks VF35 to EF40 to me, particularly if there is some luster evident. I can't imagine it grading less than 30, and that would be a disservice, imo.

Yeah that first scan is kinda washy.

It's a strange coin and proof that scans don't grade. Here's another that's closer to the color.
And I can't get it on the camera, but if it is tipped just right, the dark areas are tinged with a deep blue like an old spoon crevice.

I had ANACS do it as they had a special and were at Santa Clara and I gave em a dozen to grade.

I have had good luck with them (altho they dint bring back a bust HALF at the 20 he THOUGHT it might make)

I don't mind SUBMISSION of coins, but groveling, hoping, and feeling like the experience was a HURDLE just doesn't make me real happy. And it was a week and a day turn for 13 bucks.

Problem with these OLD suckers is that they are just dirty old coins.

The reverse's detail is outstanding on that coin. I didn't know whether the obverse had enough detail to keep the XF grade, though. Congrats.

Discussed that with the grader at Santa Clara. He also was VERY impressed with the reverse. The obverse is not as spectacular but it is all there and looks better in person. Uneven strike somewhat as the stars on the bottom right are WAAAAY up there, but the others are flatter by strike.

Sometimes even though the obverse is supposed to determine, the whole coin has to be graded.

And this one is so nicely unmessed with that it is just.........pleasant.

Sure wish I hadn't lost my baking soda before submitting it. heh heh

    topstuf:

Nice 1806 quarter. Are you submitting it too? I like that one even more than the Dollar.

Technically? Harshly cleaned. But had it not been given its occasional rubbing the coin would look black, like the stuff
around the stars and in the denticles in the rim.So its been `curated` from time to time. But not in too bad of a way.
    Obviously.

Having said all that,I think the coin may even be a 50.
Unevenly pressed and overall maybe a weak pressing but the areas that are `struck hard`may show
    AU details?

I,d go EF45 if didnt know no better.

    I second that coinkat.
That one hellavuh Draped Bust Quarter.I hope PCGS wasnt too hard on it....Its yours right?

    Super coins there.Thanks for sharing.

    The `06 is a what...45 atleast I hope.
The obverse really carries it. Nice.
  • topstuftopstuf Posts: 14,803 ✭✭✭✭✭
The quarter was already IN a PCGS. And of course, a 40. See, the hair wasn't quite sharp enough to CUT the grader. Thus the lesser grade.

The dollar seems to match ........ugh.......pHotOgraDe.....shudder.....almost perfectly for XF.

    heh heh

And yeh, it's in my stash also. All I gots is....snif....OLD dirty coins. SOMEDAY, though, I aspire to a DCAM Sacagawea!
