Merc folks, how many are bidding on the eBAy 20-D in 65?

I noticed at least four board members who are bidding on a 1920-D MS65 Merc. The questions is, how many more will join in the fray? It has nice tone, so those who prefer white coins would not be interested.
The last minute bidding and snipe may get very interesting.

You don't have to worry about me, my plate is full. If I was going to have bid on something, it would have been that 27-D in 63FB that Tim got yesterday. Nice snag Tim, I know you've been after one of those for a while! Dibbs on that one if you upgrade it later Sure glad I didn't bid and run the price up!

It just depends on how guilty I feel about spending more money in April than I have coming in, thanks to property taxes, income taxes, and bills from prior coin purchases. But hey, the government can spend money they don't have, so I guess I can, too. Right? I should be patriotic, and stimulate the economy by spending. Besides, that is a nice-looking '20-D. They don't come along every day, and I haven't had an addition to my Merc set in a couple of months.
Decisions, decisions......
Jim
I will keep in touch though.

I expect it to fetch way over grey sheet bid.
Looks like a nice one!

<< <i>Well I bid on that Dime again last night and got outbid in about 20 minutes. That really soured me on trying to even get any more Merc Dimes. Its just to darn expensive to continue this pursuit of the Little Ladies. I'm hanging it up again. >>
Ken,
You had me going there for a minute. I thought "What's he trying to do? Corner the market on '20-D Mercs like he's doing with the '25-P???" Then I realized what today's date is. You're way too much a diehard Merc fan to quit.
I'll be very surprised if that '20-D doesn't end up in a Registry set. Just as a point of reference, the Greysheet bid/ask prices are $565/$625. It'll be interesting to watch this auction, but some Forum members will be disappointed. I hope no one decides to "hang it up" because they lost one coin.

I think everyone should quit bidding and let deepcoin get the 20D for his NB set. Unless there is a 66 to be had. Then he should go for that.
Jon
That is very kind of you. However, some of the other folks here saw it first.. so I am willing to do what it takes... within reason of course. No one expects this go for Greysheet bid I am sure.
If anyone has a 66 NB, of course I would be interested. However, those are bound to be $$$. As usual, I am always interested in the NB coins for my humble set.
Tim
If I was to win this 20D that is up for auction I will have a MS65 20D For Sale. Its White, well almost White. Anyway that My Pitch and I'm Sticking to It. Will Not pay Crazy Money for the Auction Coin though.
Deepcoin does not want that Ugly Toned coin anyway does he ?
Ken
I am not opposed to a white coin. I could play let's make a deal if you win this one. Of course I would want to see yours, but your word is good with me. I am becoming more of a tone lover in my old collecting age.
Yes, Tim I have a pop 1/0 coin in the 20S. I just couldn't find one I liked and it came along.
DeepCoin, I don't know if there even is a 20D in 66 NB. Does anyone out there know?
I haven't been able to look at this 20D. The link won't work for me. If it is real nice it will probably go way over greysheet bid.
Hope someone in the "Merc" group" gets it.
And by the way DeepCoin, I don't consider your set humble at all. It's a great set.
Jon
If you want it say so and I will back off. Mine is no slouch so this one in the Auction has no High Priority. For sure I do not want to bid anyone up that really wants the coin.
Ken
I went over to ebay and looked at the 20D. Wow, that is a nice dime.
Hope someone here gets it.

I won the '20-D. Didn't bid on it until around noon, because I didn't see much point in bidding it up at that time, and figured there'd be lots of activity at the end. My high bid of $610 held for most of the afternoon, but I was sure that someone would outbid me, so I placed another much higher bid at the very end ONE second before the auction ended. I'm happy to have gotten it for $650, which is over Greysheet ask, and was prepared to go even higher.
I'll post pictures when I receive the coin. The auction photos sure look nice.
Jim
Sure hope its as nice as the Picture in the Auction. Let us know. Tough coin and a Great Addition. Sure glad it went to a Collector and not a profit oriented individual.

The only coin I bought yesterday was at the IHOP just down the street from the Santa Clara Convention Center. I had picked up Craig(Colorfulcoins) at San Jose Airport earlier, and he brought more than enough for my plate!
My new '36-S from Craig(Colorfulcoins):
Don
ColorfulMercs and
"Senorita HepKitty"
"I want a real cool Kitty from Hepcat City, to stay in step with me" - Bill Carter
That's a pretty '36-S. I like the way the surrounding toning gives Miss Liberty sort of a cameo appearance.
Who would've thought you'd find a coin like that at the IHOP?
Jim
Also for some reason I thought you lived in Kansas. Only missed by half of the USA.

Filled out the financial aid forms and got a phone call from the financial aid person at my daughter's new College of choice and they said:
You are joking?
I was thinking of returning to the show today but with all on my plate and yardwork a callin', I figured I'd better eBay some more and mow the lawn!
Jim:
The cameo look is even more pronounced in person as the toning on Miss Liberty is just light hues of gold and green.
Maybe it was the melting dab of butter in the center that made the strawberry syrup run to the periphery!
Don
SWEETLY toned Winged Liberty
Congragulations on winning the 20-D. You beat me fair and square on this one. I thought you might have a last second snipe, but that is how it goes. Sorry if I cost you an extra $40 with my last minute bid. I suspected it might take 700 instead of 650 to win the coin.
If you ever want to upgrade to a FB coin, I will be happy to take this humble NB coin off your hands.
I never mind losing to a fellow member here.
I'm pleased with the coin. The darker portions are iridescent, and not so dark that you have to strain to see the design. The center crossbands are probably about 50% full, and the overall strike is much better than the only other '20-D I've actually had the opportunity to hold in my hand over the past year.
The last 10 coins are going to be really tough, but saving for them and then locating them will make me appreciate them more.
Jim
I'm quite happy for you...seems you've done well
Marc
I know how you feel with the tougher dates. They're all gettin' tough for me!
Congrats on a tough one!
edited to add: DC: I only wish!!
Don
Sweetly-toned Winged Liberty and
Jim.......NICE LOOKING COIN.
Ken
Those are my feelings too. If it's a coin that I don't have, the gloves come off, and anything goes. Well, maybe not anything. I do have limits as to how much I'll bid for a coin. But if someone bids over my limit, the coin is theirs, fair and square, with no hard feelings.
You really would like the '20-D. It's got the nicest toning of any of my Mercs. I'm very with it.
