Grapevine, Texas Show report

Just got home from having a table at the Grapevine, Texas show and must say I was very pleased. Sold a lot, bought a little, and only got into one argument and that was with a friend of mine and he's already forgiven me. Collectors were buying but were being careful. Bullion was slow but just about all of the non-modern collector coins I brought were sold by the time I was ready to go home. If the coin was nice, priced fair it was easy to sell. I sold a lot of modern coins but they were mostly just the cheap ones that people buy just buy for fun. I really don't think coin shows are the right place to sell the better ones.

Many board members there. It was fun meeting many of them.

Here is a picture of David and Ginger Pike. They are the one's that put the show on and they do a wonderful job making it a good show. Also another picture of the room. This was Sunday afternoon so there were not too many people left.

image That's what real friends do. All this talk of coin shows makes me want to go to another one. I really like the atmosphere. mdwoods

"Rosebud" hasn't come in yet. Maybe next week.
  • There are more people and tables there than there were in Baltimore on the last day..............Ken

That looks a little bigger than the Anaheim monthly show. Was the photo taken near the wall?

It seemed like a pretty good show from my experience as well. However, I wish I would of gone on Friday to get first shot at everything. Fridays and Sundays seem to be the best days to go. Fridays give you first pics, and Sundays give you best prices.

  • Sold three commems, a BTW, a Texas, and a Monroe, then bought a couple of raw modern commems and a Morgan dollar. I didn't look a lot at Type coins. There were some really nice lower grade commems with nice toning that I passed on, and a couple of really neat toned pieces that wouldn't help my Type set, but were similar to what I collect.

The picture was taken where the stage is on the far end of the show.
  • I wish Dave and Ginger would not charge to enter the show, I might show up at them......I put on a show once a year and dont charge to look.....this is the only thing I dont like about thier shows, but other than that, they do have a good show.
Principle here: I wounld not go into the grocery store if they charged me just to look....at the chance I might buy some of their goods....

  • Two bucks........a measley sum to get to look at thousands of wonderful coins. I'd pay two bucks just to look at the Pan-Pacific set that is there every time. I'd pay two bucks just to hear Dick Osburn opine for three minutes on any seated series. I'd pay two bucks just to have a place to meet a few other board members.

If two bucks is too much for two and one-half days of pure coin collecting joy....then...well....then.....I respect your opinion but don't understand it.

At your next show, charge two bucks to all the adults and then use the proceeds to give door prizes to the kids. Two bucks.....is a Sunday newspaper for Pete's sake. You can't even go to the zoo any more for two bucks. Two bucks won't even buy a small popcorn when you go to the movies and watch some uneducated, Saddam-loving, rehab junkie, hollywood star play pretend.

Oh right.....now I feel better. Also, no offense intended...I was just surprised to see the comment about charging two bucks for three days of fun. But...to each his own. Take care and have fun.

    Go well.

Bummer I missed this one. I did attend a local show in Austin and got an awesome MS 3cN.

For those comparing to other shows, there are usually approx. 70 tables.

Looking forward to TNA up there.

May 9-11. It's at the same facility as last year, the Will Rogers Coliseum.

Had fun at the show Saturday - bought two modern commems (White house and Black Rev), 5 toned MS buffs and some Darkside coppers for my English Channel Island sets.

Met JB, saw the Numish and Adrian, had a good time!
