What's wrong with you people?

As a new member to these boards I find it amazing that some even have the ability to type a message and have it posted.

The world is made up of two kinds of people: pro-active and re-active.

Message board ratio: pro-active, 10: re-active, 90.

I have a family, and my sanity (or lack of) is tried every day. By the messages on these boards I suspect that many of the members ignore their children, practice road rage, and are basically clueless to life and how to play nice and or get things done.

Not that I am perfect (far from it, just ask coinguy1), but so many posters on these boards don't even collect certified coins, let a lone PCGS, yet they think they have all the answers (or better yet, that any other pro-active thinking is wrong).

These boards should be fun and intertaining, teach numismatics, and have some controversal ideals, but what I am reading now a days sounds alot like back ground noise from "One flew over the Coukoo's Nest".

Let the flames begin.
But remember: Once a bedbug, always a bedbug.

I used to read the political/personal attack posts thinking that there may be a nugget or two of worthwhile information therein. I concluded that if there is anything worthwhile within them, it isn't worth the time required to read and extract it. Now I've become somewhat adept at ignoring all posts other than those of the type you've indicated. No flames from me. Just an...Amen Brother!

Yes, if you don't collect PCGS plastic, you can't possibly have anything to contribute here, or to the hobby. That's the rule. Why so many posters fail to understand this is beyond me image

    Crito,

Good response. My wife said I shouldn't post it but I did.

Not that collectors of uncertified coins don't have anything good to say, because many do, but it seems that many of them just bash the grading services (not just PCGS) without really knowing what they are talking about.

Soapbox politics and philosophy on these boards is futile. Don't even try. Nobody here ever changes their mind.

Better to just play coins with each other, I think.

Coincrank is correct. I think too many people just love to stir the pot just to feel superior (even if they know they are wrong).

However, its is everyones right to freedom of speech on these boards-so long as they don't make viscious or personal attacks and don't violate any rules.

  • I don't think there's anything wrong with ANY of the people on these boards. I have learned a little something from each and every one of them. There's a nice healthy slice of Society here, and I would expect no less.

    You're great!

It took me seven papagraphs to say the same thing you did in two.

    And you did it better.

I too have learned something from everyone on this forum, even it it was simply how not to behave. Lets stick to opining on specific issues and events, and not people. This thread is too general and does nothing but stir the pot.

I am always happy to respond to a specific statement of garbage, however I do not know what "some" you refer to. I can only guess so in this case I will not reply.

I'm sorry, but there's something wrong with YOU people image Bashing PCGS or NGC isn't a "personal attack", regardless of the motives. PCGS and NGC are not living things. Forgive me for stating the obvious. If you take that kind of bashing "personally", that's really YOUR problem. Having said that, PCGS is DH's "baby", and I can sort of understand HIM taking it personally. Greg couldn't interpret the response any other way even if he wanted to, however.

Good point, Crito. I think some who overly passionately defend <enter service of choice> because they have a financial stake in the strength of a certain plastic. They would not be objective because they've already staked out their choice, and can't bear to see their world and the financial strength of their holdings threatened.

I don't collect certified coins. I do have opinions. I do research and try to only comment on topics that I think I'm informed on. I'm passionate about my hobby. Ocassionally I'll throw a bone to see if the dog will bite. I don't have a problem with questioning current practices. This is how I learn.

Just got back from a week out of the country and agree that it would be nice not to have to sift through so many threads to locate the posts of most interest. To tell the truth though, some of the non-coin related posts are more interesting than the ones where individuals are simply showing their latest acquisition or asking for second opinions on a coin's grade.

Yep, a lot opinions on these boards. If you get angry when someone diagrees with you, you still have room for enlightenment. You don't always have to be right! you probably will never always be right, and it's a point of view most of the time. Be happy with your own understanding of the infinity of components we call the universe. And maybe step back once in a while from HAVING to be right. Remember it is infinity. Try to get your mind around that.

I guess that takes care of the majority of the collectors who belong to the Early American Coppers Club, the John Reich Society, the Bust Half Nut Club, the Civil War Token Society and TAMS. I never knew how much riff-raff there was in the numismatic community!
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
