I wonder what he's going to do if somebody bids on it? I notice he has only a $9.99 opening and no reserve. Looks like a modern token of some sort.

Edited to make the point of my statement clearer.
  • I think it is one of those coins from the late 60's that Shell Oil gave out everytime you filled up!!
    The D.O.T.
  • Isn't it one of the franklin mint's president series bronze medals?

That's exactly what it is, I have the entire set in a frame. It goes up to LBJ and that's it.The set looks cool,as if they're made of gold but of course they're not.

Now I have seen it all.

  • It's a medal from Shell, but from 1992, not the 1960s. The promotion, according to the back of the holder given away with the pieces, ran from May 22, 1992, through Dec. 31, 1992. I have, by sheer coincidence, a complete eight-piece set of the 1992 Shell medals on my desk at the office. A fellow staff member found them in her father's estate and gave them to me. The quality is what you would expect for this type of give away promotion (low).

Shell gave away aluminum game pieces. The bronze set was one of the prizes. This is one from the bronze set. Late 60's if I remember rightly.

I have a few from this series, and I think they date from the late 60s or early 70s, but I don't know exactly.

So have any of you told this guy what it is he is selling? After all, he is desperate. I certainly agree with him that there is probably no sum in the world that would be adequate compensation for his Grandfather's Shell Oil token.

    Clank,

He says in the auction that he'll contact anybody who bids. I'm fervently awaiting his eMail.

Well, he eMailed me to ask why I bid on it.image Good thing it's the only thing I'm bidding on right now, since he didn't reference the auction, or the token or even put a subject line in the eMail.

I only bid to see if he was feeding us a load, or if he actually would close the auction after he found out what it was.image

looks like his counter isn't working right.
  • Wow! This guy needs to find himself a dictionary. Or more. That was a difficult read.

Well if it is working right, I'm going to steal his auction title. The count went from 170 to 300 plus in the last 20 minutes.

Hmmmmm, maybe I'll get me some of these Shell Oil tokens....

I'll bet the counter IS working correctly.

I've said on many occasions, don't underestimate the number of lurkers out there reading this Forum!!

A thread comes up about a coin and it not unusual to see the counter explode by 100's in the next couple of hours.

Plenty of stuff exchanged between lurkers about what is said on this Forum. image

Go to the auction site, hit refresh 5 times and tell us what you see.

Huh, I have one of those things. Same as one in the " not for sale " E-Bay auction. Thomas Jefferson that is. It`s basically just cheap brass and it`s tarnished. It`s reeded in case antone is wondering. Someone gave it to my brother and he gave it to me back in 1993. I`ve always wondered what it was. Here`s a scan of mine and it isn`t for sale.

Just did, and what I see is that the counter went from 345 to 350.

Russ, that shouldn't happen should it? Other counters see me once so to speak.

I also got debugging warnings on that page.
  • 1jester1jester Posts: 8,637 ✭✭✭
Well, let's all bid it up to over $1000 and keep him to his promise that it's not for sale. Then what would happen?!

Russ wasn't about to spill the beans that this was the accented hair variety, which required the purchase of Shell "Plus."
