what coin series exceptionally toned coins still do not bring huge price multiples of their untoned

i see many common date morgans and modern silver eagles washington quarters roosies and modern post 1980 coins bring huge prices multiples of thier white counterparts if the coins are exceptionally toned

are there still some coin series where exceptionally toned coins are still not bringing huge premiums for the toning? and are these series sleepers ready to be awakening??

i think many older series are cheap for excpetionally toned coins and many times rarer then any of the aobve i mentioned

Jeffersons. There are some amazingly toned GEM Jeffersons offered for extremely attractive prices.
It'll catch up soon enough, but so far Jeffersons have mostly been left off the crazy money list of coins (minus FullStep Jeffs, of course).

Colorfully toned Seated and Barber coinage would seem to represent great values. You can find some super toned pieces from those series and pay far less of a relative premium than you would for some of the more modern series that you mentioned. I don't really expect to see them selling for 5-10 times the price so I wouldn't say they're sleepers per-se, but for the cost/enjoyment factor there are some excellent opportunities for the toning fanatic. I think you already know this of course.

Some (not most) IHCs in BN and RB have magnificent blue/purple toning. Those can trade for less than the price of a RD piece, and represent tremendous bargains when found.

I'd agree with the Barber series of coins. I'd include Walkers in there too. Monsters will always sell for multiples of "average" coins, but attractively toned coins in those series can be had for seemingly reasonable numbers.

Here I am being bias about the series that is collected but some of These can be purchased for prices that are really cheap. Maybe the reason for this is that the coin is so small. Also they do not come very often with Tone that folks call Monster. Anyway IMO nicely Toned Mercs are still a good value for collectors.

I have found 10 or so toned 1964 and 1964-D toned raw Kennedys for cheap $. Some with russett, Tidy toning, others with monster rainbows, but I've never paid a premium for one. Granted they might not be 66s or 67s, but the color on some is fantastic.

I also agree Fairlane -- I have also picked up a couple of 63-67 not FBs toned raw Mercs without a premium for color.

I have put together a raw set of toned Roosies as well for little or no premium.

And at times I have found toned cert. Peace $ without a premium, but that is much harder to find.

Beautifully toned Type III silver three cent pieces bring the regular prices for coins in their respective grades. Generally nicely, but not spectacularly, toned 19th century material is reasonably priced.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
  • I've bought several wonderfully toned Seated Half Dimes at no premium to their regular price.
