How about Dave Bower's book on silver dollars. He gives the history and has some different theories about which coins are "originals" and which ones are "restrikes."
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
  • There's also some good info in the Redbook though it does'nt go into great detail, it's a good summery nonetheless.

  • Thanks for the info. Any more ideas?

    KK,

You should join the Liberty Seated Collectors Club. Membership entitles you to the Gobrecht Journal, which covers all Seated denominations as well as Trade Dollars. Back issues can be found typically in the "Collective" Volumes, and will have articles on Gobs.

Excellent advice from everyone. These coins are phenomenal and very historic. I highly recommend them. I am still trying to save for one. They are not cheap. Just think of a huge flying eagle cent and the price to go along with it.
