Please offer your opinion(s) as to grade?

GilbertGilbert Posts: 1,533 ✭✭✭
If you don't mind, can you look at these four coins and offer your opinion as to whether you would consider them all the same grade. If not, what grade might you consider them. They are all encapsulated. Thanks.

Four CC Morgans for your perusal.

I apologize for not being able to put them in a better format.

Luster is key, but here's my take from what I can see.

The first is a really nice MS-64, The rest are all nice MS-63s, but I have seen coins of equal quality in MS-64 holders from both PCGS and NGC.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Bill, you nailed it with this comment, " ... the rest all nice 63s, but I've seen ..."

    partial c&p from my PM

Well I felt the coins would grade

    78CC 63 maybe PL
    80/79CC 63 maybe PL
    84CC 64PL
    85CC 64

    but PCGS felt they were
    63
    63
    63PL
    63

IMO there is no way all four are the same grade. I really would like to procure every single comparable coin currently graded 64 and have them downgraded and PCGS pay me the difference, but, that would be somewhat contrary to my belief that I will not be bound by what any grading company says.

BTW, my scanner sucks and photocountry (the free service) doesn't provide much format alternative.

BTW, that 80/79CC has some serious planchet issues. Does anyone know if this is common? The planchet looks improperly rolled, like drag marks when shaving metal - still it has prooflike qualities. image If you look at the reverse above the motto you might be able to detect some horizontal lines; they run (in varying degrees) across the whole reverse (including the main device, of course somewhat minimized by the strike).
