Which member of this board would you most like...

...to meet at the National? and Why?

(1) Must be someone you have never met in person.
(2) May or may not have transacted business or email with.

I'll start.

Crazysc...I've never seen him on SAH, but I appreciate the candor in his posts.

Jay...I haven't met him but have done business with him.

Everybody talks about this guy like he is some God-like, all-careing, all-giving mister nice guy that can walk on water. Atlantic City is by the ocean....Jay, how about a walking on water demo? imageimageimage

Thanks for the update on your son last week. Sounds like things could get interesting real soon.

All of the 69' collecting crew - a great bunch. This National will be my first. I expect that card will be almost secondary to getting a chance to meet some of the great people who have posted here over the last few years.
A PSA sponsored get together would solve the old "Do I know you?"...questions on the show floor. Although those are fun too.
    See you all there.

If any are interested, I may be willing to give tours of collection(over 20,00 psa graded vintage cards, over 100 sets on registry) if interested. Mentioned this offhand to one board member last week and he thought it would be great. If fly from Newark, I am 25 minutes awaw, 90 minutes from Philly.

I've already had the pleasure of meeting many board members at Ft Washington although very briefly, they include EJ Guru (Eric Sanders), FB (Frank Bakka), Bauerfan (Steve Pekovich), Davalillo, Gaspipe (Bob Cacamese, by the way your '69 Ron Taylor was shipped today) etc...
I would like to meet the '65 gang both retired & still active, incl Wayne, Mike, John, Peter, Neil, Brian etc... And all others that I've done business with & bought from which includes the Mighty Zardoz, King Kellogg, Dan Markel, Stonegate, Mike Castaldi, Vargha, RobE, Jeb, Carey, 1420, Carkim (Get well soon) and many others.
But I especially would like to meet RW2WIN as anybody who calls me "God-Like" has got to be a great guy. Plus when I start a Cult where all the members give me their cards, he will be the 1st that I'll sign up image ...jay

My number #1 pick would be:

    1. waittiltheytrytosell Why? I'm not sure, perhaps to see who this person really is.

The rest of the top 5 includes:

    2. Marc Schoenen
    3. Uniship
    4. Jay Wolt
    5. Marshall Fogel

The rest that I'm also anxious to meet includes (in no order): thegemmintman, Frank Bakka, Basilone, Carkim, EJGuru, Vargha, Kurt, Ray Beohm, John Constantino, Wolfbear, Davalillo, habs71, King Kellogg's, VinceCarder, and Carolj. There's are probably some that I missed, so hopefully we'll meet at the next show too!

I've met wonderful people at past shows such as Ron Rittlinger, Acowa, Bob Cacamese, Ron Sanders Jr., Skylaneflyer, Jim Merrill, BJ Searls, Zardoz, Mike Castaldi, Wayne Ellis, CrazySol, Frank Smith, Steve Peckovich, Erik Jarvi, and I could go on for ever........

Folks, the National is worth the trip alone just for visiting other collectors. I hope all members can make to Atlantic City and meet as a large group.

First, I'd like to say that the posts in this thread have been the deciding factor in my decision to make the trip to NJ this summer. I wasn't sure if I was going to do it, but I will mark it on my calendar right now! I travelled through Atlantic City this past October and would not have imagined going back there any time soon, but I look forward to meeting everyone.

I guess the people I'd most like to meet are (in no particular order):

Carlos Aponte (thanks for your help with my '70 set and I really hope to see you there!)
Frank Bakka (again, thanks for your help with my '70 set)
Jay Wolt - Quality Cards - Cavalcade of Sports (great help with the '70 set, hopefully the '65s soon image)
Marc Schoenen (It's a little known fact that I also collect Schmidt cards - until now, I guess image)
Chris Renaud (The reason I am no longer #1 on the '70 Topps Baseball Set Registry - awesome collection from multiple sets)
Keith Abrams (Thanks for the top notch cards and excellent customer service!)
Joe Tauriello - Set Builders (Again, great cards and great service)
'69 Topps Baseball Collectors (Stump, Dude, RayBShotz - sorry if I forgot anyone else)
Anyone collecting the '60 Topps Baseball set - I don't know anyone by name yet

I'm now looking forward to my trip to NJ in July (I never thought I'd hear myself say that!)

I hope to see you ALL there!

    JEB.

Depending on wether I move to Chicago or not it's possible I'll be able to attend my first National.I even have a comped room at the Sands for about 2 nights.

All of the above mentioned and beyond the mentioned list would be a pleasure to meet even to just say hello. From reading and watching the way everyone works here on collecting and all,I have to say collectively your all the biggest influences on me in regard to the hobby.

BTW- is anyone going to CT's biggest show at UNH College 4/5 or 4/6? SGC is the big grading company that will be there,I'm sure there will be a few HOFERS there for signings and some ok raw cards but not many.

    I would like to meet:

Steve Hart (bbcexchange, great inventory, nice on the phone, but have never met)

Peter Lalos (similar comments as I have said re Keith Abrahms)

Virtual Lizard (such a stange name, and to make sure there are no hard feelings over the 70 Topps set)

Chris Klinger, another 70 Topps collector

Steve Peckovich, to see if I can figure out how he finds so many nice ungraded cards so I do not have to buy so many cards from him

    Frank Bakka

Daniel Chang (one of the first dealers I met after returning to the US after having been an expat for 6 years), who helped me figure out later on (through comparitive experience) the difference between good and honorable dealers and those who are not.

If I have missed anyone for now, I apologize in advance

I may have your answer on Steve. I had the pleasure of meeting him at the Chicago show last weekend. We met at Setbuilders table. He was looking through some 58's as I was going thru 69's. I left after some humorous conversation and about two hours later he was still sitting there. Now maybe he left and came back but I think just old fashioned hard work is his formula.

Stump> I think a lot of people get the impression that the nice raw ungraded cards just magically find their way into the hands into certain collectors. I know Steve is very diligent and beats the bushes for the nice cards to submit.
Now, I certainly don't mean to imply that this is something Chris doesn't already know. . .but occasionally I'm amazed at how much some people underestimate the value (and reward) of putting in the work and finding cards to submit yourself.

I saw Mike at the setbuilders table looking through raw cards in Chicago. When I looked at the books I mostly saw nm cards. But then I glanced at about 15 cards Mike had pulled out and put in soft sleeves and they looked absolutely mint. I'm too impatient and if the first 20 cards are not worthy of grading then I quit and go on to the next whereas Mike will take his time and pull out the mint cards. I admire your hard work Mike.

Wayne> For me, personally, it depends on the source. If I don't know a dealer it's really hard for me to go through a jillion cards if the first bunch look like a trainwreck. But. . .if I know the dealer or see cards that are encouraging, then it's almost like it's just a matter of waiting for the good cards to appear - and to me that's a lot of fun. For example, there was a dealer out of Houston who had quite a few 72s. As I looked through them, most were solidly NM - but they were close to NM/MT - off by one corner here or centering there. So it made me believe there was nice stuff in there and was just a matter of finding it. Sure enough. . .found 40 or so from him on Saturday and another 20 or so on Sunday. But yeah. . .noone like to spend an hour at a dealer's table looking through cards only to find nothing.
As for the stuff I pulled at the show. . .we'll see if PSA agrees image
