acid date Buff's

GeomanGeoman Posts: 2,491 ✭✭✭
What is the general way that acid helps reveal a date on a Buffalo nickel? I do not want to try this, but am curious as to how it works. I have seen a few auctions lately, that state "Acid Date Buffalo" and the coin looks a little "pinkish" around the date area.

Also, is it really worth it to do this, unless it is a rarer date?

Any thought on this? And anyone have before and after pictures that they could post?

Only do it as a last resort. I used to own an acid treated 1913 S Type II. It was an XF 40, but with the acid dip, the coin was worth next to nothing. Think I got $25 for it.

I think your before & after pictures would be 'ugly' and "uglier but with a date."
