The Community is Splitting Up.

FairlanemanFairlaneman Posts: 10,424 ✭✭✭✭✭
Well after the events of the last few days it looks like people are seeking other avenues for knowledge and banter. Not only has the NGC site gained but other sites have picked up members and seem to be doing just fine. Is this good for collectors or is this the aftermath of the storm ? Observations that some members just plain are not posting anywhere has been made also. Maybe the Sharp Tongue of some has contributed to this fact. Hopefully all will settle down and We as a community can get back to the Task at hand, the Sharing and Helping for others of the Numismatic knowledge which we possess. I for one certainly hope the split and hurt feelings can be mended with time. The site here was a vast ocean of knowledge that was Free for all and just a click away.

Just a little sad but if need be three or four clicks can be made if that is how the Numismatic Community deems it should be.

I've not found much of interest to post responses to here in the past couple of weeks. I see exactly what you mean. It seems the powers that be are getting exactly the opposite response from the one they had hoped for. Since I don't slab coins (or even buy slabbed coins) it doesn't make a hill of beans to me. I'm just here for the enjoyment of reading and sharing numismatic information. When that dies down, my posts here are very limited.

there has been quite a bit of migration to this site: Numisaddict

The creator is right in my town as a matter of fact. It's designed well and has it's own auction/bid board. You are also free to bash/praise whomever and whatever you please. Copper - we could definitely use series experts such as yourself.

If some people choose to leave, it is their perogative. As I don't see a problem staying within the new guidelines, I am not going anywhere.

  • Things certainly have changed here. There are very few people left from the old boards (Meaning before they cahnged them over). People have come and gone. Some have been removed. It has been said before and seems to fall on deaf ears that PCGS should really stand back and take a hard look at the direction they are headed in. I don't own stock in the company. Thus, I have no real say in what changes are made. This is a free site to come and take advantage of the knowledge here. Although if things continue the knowledge will slowly find more friendly ground to share their knowledge. I have met many friends thanks to these boards and cherish those friendships. I usually just read and don't reply, but sometimes you have to just say what is on your mind.

    Hi Jeff,

As you can probably imagine, my luster for this place has become rather diminished of late. Without bothering to assess blame for this feeling, it is still one that I have. I am naturally a less productive member of this message board because I am concerned that I have to walk on eggshells from now on.

As for whether I stay or go (from here), it won't be a conscious decision. Whatever happens will happen, and I'll either gradually fade away from here or maintain whatever presence I feel comfy with here. For now, though, this place no longer feels like home.

I remember one comment that Lucy made... Something about how she dared folks to make those "Kool-Aid" cracks now. I was kind of offended by that comment. It's as if *she* won, and now everyone else has to kowtow to *her* way of acknowledging CU/PCGS. HRH never, ever, claimed that PCGS was perfect and without room for improvement. Those "Kool-Aid" cracks were aimed at those who has deified HRH and elevated PCGS to the theoretical perfection.

This community sure does feel different in a sense, and yet is still the same. Those without grace are still going around advertising themselves in that state.

Oh, btw, be bop a lula!

Dinna be sad. Things are always darkest before the dawn. We all still collect coins, and we need a place to talk about it. And to vent on occasion.image The community is always changing, but I don't think it is breaking up.image mdwoods

    Mark,

I'm not altogether sad... I spend much time across the street anyway, and still find that place to suit my personality best. I am also giving numisaddict a shot. As long as I am talking, doing, or otherwise engaged in coins, I will be happy. image

As for here... I am merely feeling both disappointed and no longer like I belong.

my remark wasn't made to offend anyone, it was made because alot of folks hammer me for liking PCGs on their own forums, if your offended by it, then bummer.

I still post here, but I've also been posting at those two other boards, too. Sometimes I recycle questions from over here and post them over there.

I remember one comment that Lucy made...

Lucy's having too much fun to really mean things like that. That's her brand of humor, "Daddy-O". If she says something about Frankies, then she's serious.

On the other hand, I think her love for all things Frankie is misplaced. Franklin was around through the fifties and early sixties but I know for a fact he didn't give a hoot about rockabilly music.

Way too many new boards, I'm sticking with the #1 and that is this Board!

The usual folks are writing the usual pessimistic observations, trying to breed uncertainty onto others.

I hope those that are smart, know better, and continue to enjoy the numerous benefits of this board.

  • Been away for a few days due to a family emergency. What has happend over the past few days? What are the "new rules?"
  • I currently 'lurk' a number of boards...NGC, Coin talk and a couple on MSN and I have started lurking this one. I actively post to a couple others rcc, numisaddict, sometimes my own image. There is a lot of good info out there. You might try leaving the house one in a while. It can be fun. Or not.

BTW: Numisaddict has one feature I wish all the web based boards had...a kill-filter for trolls, flamers and

  • I posted a new thread on here today, I was looking for feedback, and it appears to have fallen in the censor's barrel. The thread was not inflamatory, did not mention anything against the will of the President, CEO Homerunhall aka David.

My guess would be that PCGS has become very sensitive, in order to delete one of my threads.

Supposedly, JMOORE's post asking for help/feedback regarding his web site also disappeared. I'm a little bit skeptical because that should have no positive or negative impact on CU or PCGS.

My enthusiasm for this board has slacked off a lot lately.
It's just not as fun as it used to be.
Whenever somebody makes a post you either have
#1 dealers telling us we are stupid
#2 collectors telling us we are stupid
#3 DH telling us collectors & dealers are stupid
I'm about ready to retire ole Dog97 and go do something else.

    well good!!!!!!

things the last few months seemed more negative then positive on here

TIME FOR A CHANGE............................ change is good

i guess only time will tell what will happen next!

    i love it!!

it would be too boring if everyone on here got along and were always on here the most!

and if you think about it in this imperfect world everyone getting along and always on here really will never ever happen!!

and if it does it would be a first in the history of the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

time for a change and shake things up as something better always comes around the corner!

maybe it will be hewre or somewhere else!

Being what it used to be does not bother me.
I had done business with PCGS for years and in 1999 or 2000 I got a computer and found out I could check the my submission status online. Then I found the forum thing.
It was fun at first, mostly coin related threads posts. But now for every coin post there are 10 PCGS politics posts & 20 babbling BS posts.
If I throw $500 away on a toned Morgan or a Highest Graded Clad Modern I don't do it because I am stupid, I do it because I am a coin collector.
I'm just a coin collector and don't care much about politics behind the grading services or being told how stupid I am all the time.
I'm a little more advanced than the State Quarter topics posted on the Coin World board but I'm not so advanced that I need to put PCGS in everything I say.
It's no longer fun & I don't fit in anymore.

Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
