Last question for a while (mercury dime)

Or at least until i find another coin i have a question aboutimage

OK, i don't know who the seller is and i'm not saying they are selling fake coins but the 21 just doesn't look right to me? does it look right to you? I'm not interested in it but it just looks wrong to me.

    I would not buy that date (or this coin) unless it was certified.

    If a coin is worth over $100 and it is raw, be suspicious. That thing looks like it was dipped about ten times and then 'cleaned' with steel wool.

    Very dull- if it was orignial, I'd call it ugly... if it wasn't, I wouldn't argue.

    That is a choice whizzed, cleaned coin perhaps? I wouldn't touch it, particularly that an AU coin for that date is not cheap. Stick to a PCGS/NGC coin to be on the safe side.

  • The coin looks harshly cleaned, but the date looks ok (the 9 needs to be open, and the 1's need to have the serif at the top). If the coin is a "converted" 1941, the 9 will be closed and the 1's will be straight up and down (more or less).

    The mintmark looks lousy, but there's really no reason to add one because the D doesn't carry a premium. I think it's because of the harsh cleaning.
