A REALLY pretty Proof Buffalo Nickel from another thread (and another world)!

I mentioned this coin in another thread, earlier today. It was graded PR68 by PCGS, was sold by our company last year and is one of the prettiest/finest Proof Buffalo Nickels I've seen. I thought more people might be able to view it if I started a new thread. Enjoy!

I have now finally seen an attractive Buffalo nickel. That is not only the nicest I've ever seen, its the only one I can stand to look at for more than a nanosecond.
Thanks for sharing it!

Wow - that is a purdy buffalo.

I'm curious, though, it doesn't appear to be fully struck (the obverse in particular). Is that the case, and if so, how does it garner a PR68 grade?
Many of the Unc. 38 Ds have golden toning & some of them have attractive blue centers. I have one in 6 & only paid $48 for it.
What makes this coin special to me is the rainbow toning; now that's rare on a buffalo nickel.

it up as a piece of magnificent art. Dont think that I have ever seen anything quite like that.
Thanks for bringing up the picture again Mark. I must have missed it last time. Bear

Supercoin - I saw no problems with the strike and rarely, if ever have, on a proof.

For those who missed it, here's an amazing looking 38-D, posted previously, that sold in an auction recently:
Looks like album toning: neat to think of proof Buffs being stored in an album for an extended period of time. Mark: do you know if this coin had any "brothers" or "sisters," or did it come to you alone?
I LOVE LOVE LOVE these toned Buffs. Putting together a"slider"/MS circ strike set of these is my project for this year.

However, you are gonna owe me a keyboard if you keep posting pics like this (drool is so hard to clean outta the darn things!)

What kind of prices did thes beauties bring?
this MS64 from the Benson collection has some really nice colors.
In answer to your question, I believe that the MS67 1938-D brought in the mid $2000 range. The dealer who purchased it was thinking/hoping he could get it into an MS68 holder. An "ordinary" MS67 is probably worth less than $250!
The PR68 (PCGS population of 8) was listed for sale in the upper $9000's, if memory serves me correctly.
For comparison purposes : a PR67 1937 (PCGS population of 259) would bring approximately $2500, a PR66 (PCGS population of 559) - about $1800 and a PR65 (PCGS population of 548) - perhaps $1500.

Yes it does, but most of the Benson nickels were spotted and ugly. That is a rare nice one from the set.
