1999 Dolley Madison

Who thinks this coin is going to be a big success? Where do you see its value in a few years, BU verses Proof?

Same BU mintage as the Shriver Commemorative (high). Dolly's saving grace is that she is a much better looker than Eunice!image

I wish Tiffeney's would do more designs for U.S. coinage.

  • ClausUrch in my Coin Price Magazine it says the BU mintage is 22,948 that is not much at all for a Commorateive. Eunice in Bu is 89,301...dolly has to do better than Eunice.
  • cosmicdebris, Maybe the Name Tiffeney alone will do wonders for it.

Commemorative Coins by A Swiatek lists the MS as 89104 and Proof as 224403.

Krause World Coins says 22,948....Does anyone have the official US Mint figures???? We need a tie breaker.
  • I dont understand why Coin Price Magazine would make this misprint!

    From the mints website:

    Total Coins Sold
    313,507
The U.S. Mint's Total Coins Sold reflect the final figure after reconciliation of all orders.
(Note: The number of coins sold may vary slightly from figures in other numismatic publications.)

Here's a link to the USMint website: Hello Dolley

Doesn't breakdown proof vs unc but the totals match my previous post.
  • I wonder why the mint says one thing and Coin Price Mag and Krause says another...this is not right and misleading. I bought Dolley on the numbers of Coin Price Magazine, this is not good.
  • They say the number may very slightly....slightly does not quite describe the difference.

It's still a nice Commemorative issue and as long as you didn't try to corner the market on them, there should be no reason not to be pleased with the coin. Traditionally, coins have not been a good investment if that is what you are after.
  • Claus, yes I love the coin, it is beautiful...but yes I would like to see the coins I purchase go up in value...as this stands Eunice and Dolley will be left behind.
