I just purchased an interesting mint error. Your input needed.

I just purchased this on Ebay.

2000-D Roosevelt ANACS-MS60 Weakly struck/ Die Adjustment strike

Now here is one on Fred Weinberg's site, and a much better example, but look at the price,
I am not that well versed in die adjustments, I welcome your input.

Thats an odd looking critter. I agree, there should have been some sort a designation.

I am going to have ANACS relabel it as -die adjustment strike-.

That's interesting, Brian. The world of errors is almost a stranger place to me than the Darkside. I will say this, from the coins that you share with us here, you have a very broad, well rounded interest in numismatics.

Broadening one's numismatic horizons is a great experience. I am glad you decided to expand into the darkside. Keeping an open mind invites wisdom.

ANACS has it attributed correctly. You can tell because the deepest areas of the die, which is the hair on the obv & leaves on rev still show metal fill and they wouldn't show any if if was a trial.
Instead of looking at the similarities between yours and Fred Weinberg's coin look at the differences in the details and lack of details between the 2 coins.
Also Fred Weinberg & Mike Byers or the 100 other eror guys wouldn't pass up a die trial that stayed on eBay for a week and closed @ $9.99. image

Brian, Nice score- especially for the price (less than slabbing fees! You can't beat that), but Dog97 sure has this one right. HUGH difference between weakly struck and die set-up coin.

Usually the mintage is single digits (for any given year) for the die set-up while the weak strike may number in the thousands.

And I've also found that Error Gurus are usually victorious when it comes to landing the toughies on eBay. I've yet to see one slip by them for a steal of a price without them throughly studying the auction first.

    Hi Brian,
Nice coin. Its good to have examples of many types of errors.Filled dies, cracked dies or minor others that are common can be obtained at a small price or in your pocket change. Errors are a cool (sometimes profitable) area of collecting.Hey,I get excited everytime I find something in my change.I'm a collector not an investor.Having fun for over 40 years!.That's what it's all about image:Happy Hunting.
