Home U.S. Coin Forum

Was Adrian right?

Maybe there does need to be a seperate forum populated only by the qualified big dogs. It sure is starting to sound like a good idea, for several reasons.

Carol, is this a possibility?

One of them could always start up another website.
  • Most things are possible but who would decide who the big dogs are?
Personally I think the little dogs bring up a good point every now and then.

If we need a new forum, it should be for things related to coins, but not coins themselves. Like a forum for discussing shipping, insurance, etc for coins. A place to talk about where to get supplys.

Then we need a forum for submission results.

Then a forum for people who want us to grade their coins via scan.

And how about one for all the "look at this eBay auction" posts.
  • gmarguli....lets deal with this one, then move on to those image

Carol, I'm not sure how you would select the members, but I'd strongly support any process that did not award me the honor of an invitation image

If they couldn't hype their overgraded, overpriced plastic, there wouldn't be any reason for them to be here. Maybe they just want to separate the big suckers from the little suckers. Dealing exclusively with big suckers is much more profitable.

Carol, how about putting in a good word with david so he acknoledges me just once, if not to respond to one of my posts or questions then maybe just to say hello?
The President claims he didn't lie about taxes for those earning less then $250,000 a year with public mandated health insurance yet his own justice department has said they will use the right of the government to tax when the states appeals go to court.

Hey Clankeye, all you need is another seven syllables in that response and you could make it into a wonderful tanka style poem!image

This place is growing. I see newcomer's posts with great regularity. That is good in many ways....and bad.

The good thing is that it is a indication that something here is worth participating in, and it also is evidence that numismatics is alive and well......and growing (which is also good and bad.)

The bad thing is that this forum will possibly become more and more like a nursery where all the youngsters get their milk. I don't know about you, but discussing the relative merits of 1989 Unc Silver Eagles vs. the 1990 Silver Eagles is less than stimulating.

Youngsters need their own forum....i've already seen posts complaining about people who complain about PCGS being too tight. (By the way, not all tight things are bad. A loose bungy cord jumping harness is just one thing of several you might prefer tight.)

I think you don't necessarily need a 'dealer's' forum, but you might want to break it out into U.S. Modern and U.S. Classics forum. Newbies are generally attracted to moderns and once they've herniated three discs lugging their collection around, they start thinking about collecting something older than their TV.

Quite frankly, I like some moderns. My boy loves moderns (and classics, specially when i pay for them).

I just think that as everyone finds this place, it's going to decrease in its attractiveness to people (dealers and collectors) because it's like going to a party where there's one good looking girl and 25 guys. You have an objective and the 25 guys just get in the way.

  • I personally like the forum the way it is. I can easily pass over a post with a title I care nothing about. It is hard enough for me to cover the forums now. It would be even more difficult and time consuming if there were more forums. I also feel it helps collectors/dealers to learn to know each other a bit better.

Sarcasm aside people, No one should be selected as a "Big Dog" that is snobbish and elitism

at its worst. Set up a modern Forum and a classical Forum and let people moniter and participate

in either or both if they wish. The question is that there is an overlap in coins which could be

considered to belong in both Forums. I am sure a Poll or consesus could be formed to arrange

the selection. I am reminded of an old saying "Its not the size of the dog in a fight that counts,

as much as the fight in the dog. "

"It is hard enough for me to cover the forums now."

That is precisely the growing problem.

It may not be time now for a division but soon it will may be like having two girlfriends. Fun at first but an eventual impracticality.

imageWhat big dogs, because of the value of their collection, which is debatable, or a secret handshake and special code number to get in!!
I enjoy seeing all the classics posted, I want to see more from time to time, but I shouldn't be snubbed by an action of this nature!
May the so-called BIG DOGS should start up their own web site! That way we won't have to play their silly games at times and ploys for sympathyimage

Each thread could have a code acronym attached to identify what it refers to. This way we could quickly skip all those that hold no interest to you.

ex: F: flaming thread.....usually of interest to all big dogs.
M: modern coin thread.......of interest to modernmaniacs
C: classic thread.........of interest to classicalites
D: dumb thread......only of interest to the person who posted
A: ACG ..only of interest to D. Hager for lawsuit fodder
G: grading thread.........these will also be on the "F" thread
S: silly thread.....only of interest to those raising # of posts
HRH: bully pulpit thread......only open to the biggest dawgs

    this would simplify things.........I think........
