TruGrade Grading Service

Can anybody tell me a bit about the TruGrade Coins?

TruGrade Franklin

How long have they been in business? Where are they located? Can anybody supply a link to their website?

Thanks

John

These coins are slabbed by a guy in PA who also sells them. Coins in these holders should be considered as if they were in 2x2s with the grade written on them.

I actually looked at some Trugrade coins this weekend. Way overgraded, the FBLs were borderline. The lines were there but there were dings in the lines. Looks like another grade-it-yourself grading service, the slabs are not even sealed.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

They have been selling their service on eBay or Yahoo - something like 20 submissions for $99.

just another wannabe grading service.........i saw some of their items...........barf........barf again.......image
  • I posted a link for one Franklin.
If you click on "see other auctions", you will find he has 55 auctions listed, ALL are for TruGrade coins.

He must have purchased one of the "grade 100 coins" packages.

I take it a step further. Anyone who goes to the trouble of creating a pseudo-slab is trying to deceive. I would be likely to believe the grade on a 2x2 much sooner than on one of these.
  • I had a brief back and forth e-mail trade with one of the Trugrade sellers the other day. Here it is:
Me: Suggestion. When you advertise a coin as a full bell, Then show the reverse
so that potential bidders can see the full bell. Full bell is what I and
others are looking for, but if we can't see the full bell, then we won't bid
and you lose potentially higher bids. Thanks, Ken
    --------------------

Seller: Dear bidder, I understand you 100% and I also appreciate your concern.
however I can't get the photo clear enough to get a large shot to see the
fbl. Also, if I say fbl I mean just that. most or should I say many coins I
sell are with fbl. Reading my feedbacks are a positive indication on just
how honest and truth full I am. I'm a member of Ana, as well as gsna also.
I cherry pick all my coins. I'm a religious person and most of the time I
don't get half of what the coin should bring. I have a return policy that's
law in my business. I sell certified coins like 1959-d franklins ms65 with
fbl a potential getter of $100.00 plus dollars, I'm lucky to get $45.00
dollars. I just can't seem to get the high bidders, I get bidders that just
want to bid on coins to get them as cheap as possible. My coins are of
premium quality and if I say there full split bands, or full bell lines, or
5 full steps they are. and I pay for that verity. again I respect your
advise and appreciate your concern. thanks and god bless us all. ps, just
what does a 1960 franklin in ms65 with full bell lines sell for???? $40.00
dollars????? that coin should bring at least $125.00 dollars. also the
coin is certified, a grading service that i paid $6.00 to take the guess
work out of what the coin is. It's certified. thanks Louis.

My reply: Thank you! I would like to make another suggestion. You sell coins graded by Trugrade. I know nothing of them. Neither do the hundreds of people that I talk to daily on Collectors Universe. I an NOT trying to say that Trugrade is bad or no good. It is that they are new and people do not know what to expect. I do know that if you were to take a coin or 2 and send them to one of the big three grading companies to be graded, you would have no trouble selling them, and that is without showing the reverse, because if they say full bell, you know that you are getting full bell. Just a thought, Think about it!.....Ken

His reply: Hello my friend Ken,
again your right, however all coin grading services are big business just to get you to spend money on there expertise. Again your right, TRU GRADE is new grading service, and I've seen there product and I've seen the way they seal coin's. I've sent coins to PCGS and could not believe the low grades they gave me. Just take time out here for a second, if you were a coin grading company and I only sent one coin to you a year, and some business company sent you 25 thousand coins, who do you think would get the better end of the coin grading. I've see a Ben Franklin graded by PIGS that was graded as ms65, and I had the same date coin, the same every thing, but it was graded by coin universe or PCI that was graded as ms63 !! the ms63 coin was surveyed by 5 coin dealers and found to be in higher grade than PCGS. remember coin grading is an art and "no" 2 people can grade coins the same way on a constant basis. When money is involved the one with the most gets priority, don't you think? I put TRU GRADE up with the best of them because there honest, fair and they put up a nice stackable package. There coins have tong and grove effect that high vibrations seal the coin in a special non PVC case, with out heat. These people grading coins have at least 40 years of grading coins. I like them and I'm proud to sell there product. I'm losing money on a lot of these certified coins only because people like your self never heard of them. but you heard of me and you can open up my feedback page a read all about me. when I took over this coin business there were 4 negative feedbacks, I believe I receive one by a mistake in 3 years. I will honor a return policy to you even on a certified coin. thanks and may our Lord Bless Us All. THANKS LOUIS

How do you get through to these people? They really have a mindset................Thanks, Ken

LOL - Actually I like the coin less now than last weeks offering

This is a case where I bought the holder and not the coin. I bought two TRUGRADE's just for the holder.

A 1962-D Franklin MS63FBL (I'd agree with 63, but the FBL probably refers to the crack. ) and a 1968-S Kennedy PF66 Cameo. Since I want a TRUGRADE holder, I'll keep the Franklin, but the Kennedy went into the junk box. (I paid $4.50 for the Franklin and $10 for the Kennedy, if you can figure that one out) image

But, I'm not sure what to think of that Kennedy. I kept the same attitude on the second auction, but changed the price I'd be willing to part with it to a $1.

Russ, you got it on your watch list?

And you guys give me a hard time with my PCGS Kool-aid.

    Cameron,

Please don't buy any of that TruGrade Kool-Aid. I haven't tried it yet, but I advise you to stick with your current brand if you absolutely can't swear off all Kool-Aid...

    Ken,

You exercised amazing tact and restraint when dealing with that guy. His overt religiosity was a bit fulsome for my taste.

  • i guess you guys are referring to me.. when are we going to love the hobby for the coins and not their holders...who cares what holder a coin is in!!!! isnt it all about the coin anyway....??????you talk of pcgs as if they were gods or something. i must admit pcgs is the standard in my eyes, but im sure their organization is full of corruption aswell. any institution is...come on,, you guys have to get real...if you want to continue paying outrages prices for a label be my guest. i pay a premium only for the coin and never the holder.. i bet 99% of you have not seen a trugrade slab or better yet, have not compared a coin in a trugrade slab next to the same exact coin in a pcgs slab. their wont be much of a difference in most cases except for the prices paid for each.. ill bet trugrade coins were much cheaper, but just as nice

    Supracoin,

There are two big reasons why I like PCGS over most of the other services: they are well known to me and to the rest of the market; and, they have a demonstrated product warranty.

Otherwise, I agree with you that it is the coin that is most important and that I would not want to pay much of a premium for the holder.
