Wow, now THAT is a nice coin. Please don't ruin it by putting it into a slab. Again, WOW!!
  • RussRuss Posts: 48,514 ✭✭✭
That's not already slabbed? If not, that would be a shame.

Russ, you probably don't know this because Bear's bust quarter is not slabbed, but that is an incredible coin that I would grade MS-65 or higher. The luster looks beautiful and, even though it's the most common variety (B-2), it has amazing eye appeal. I guess that you will just have to wait until it's slabbed with a grade on the label before you can say, "wow, nice coin". Until then you will just have to stare at the coin with a blank face.

Since when does slabbing ruin the coin?

    Nice one, Bear.

In my opinion, it is harder to see the coin, especially after the slab gets scratched. Just my opinion, which I know all you guys hate. It's still the same coin in a slab or not, just harder to to view the coin and is too big and bulky for my taste. Maybe if PCGS same out with a 2X2 slab that had scratch resistant inert plastic, well then just maybe I would quit complaining.

    NumisEd and Russ,

Actually, Bear's 1831 25c is slabbed. It's a PCGS MS65 (good call Russ) and you are correct, it does have fantastic eye-appeal. I actually sold the coin to Bear. He had a chance to see it in Long Beach just after I purchased it.

wow, that is a gorgeous quarter, one I would be very proud to own in any attractive holder, especially my Dansco type set album!! for long term safekeeping and to "lock it in" from harm, I would probably send the coin to PCGS to get it into their attractive holder, but wouldn't care what number was on it as long as I think i paid a fair price for such a piece!

    Mike,

I already knew it was slabbed. Just giving Eddie a little crap.

The coin is already slabbed PCGS -MS-65 It is the capped Bust. Small size - small letters

The coin is well struck with deep luster. the only weakness is in the letter C in 25C on the reverse.

The toning has traces of pastel blue, light mint green, faint orange and orange/gold.

It is a tremendous coin and I bought it from a tremendous guy, Mike Printz ,from Larry Whitlow Ltd.

Mike, I was the one that called it an MS-65. Russ is not capable of grading coins on his own. Happy now Cameron and Russ, the coin is already slabbed?
  • That coin is ruined then.image Awesome coin Bear. Too bad you hadnt already bought it before the luncheon so we could all see it.

Now, now Eddie, I can grade coins in my own series just fine. Unlike others, though, I don't play grader at an internet BBS.

    Bear,

That is a fantastic coin. I imagine the blues and greens that you describe do a great deal to enhance the coin's already outstanding eye appeal.

Very happy. I am glad he can enjoy buying a coin in a slab without it being ruined. If bear decides to scratch the holder, then someone in the future can pay $5 for a re-holder. $5 is a drop in the bucket for that caliber of coin.

But, Bear, Eddie is being mean to me. I think he should have to go to his room without jelly donuts. BTW, could you please stop talking about those? It took every ounce of willpower to keep from pulling in to Dunkin on the way home last night.image

Man, I post a nice coin for a fellow board member and some people are all over it jumping to conclusions. One Major dealer comes on here and slams a grading company and everbody is going nuts.

I didn't post the web page where Bear bought it because I didn't know if he wanted all the information to be made public. Hey Bear congrats on your new baby!!!!

You could adopt me and since we're both from Bronx New York we would fit right in together.image

    Cheers!

Cameron- I would have liked to show the coin at the luncheon, but Mike hadnt

even priced the coin yet and he wouldnt let me keep my paws on the coin for more

then a few minutes. I offered him a jelly donut as a deposit, but he said he didnt like jelly donuts.

It was all I had left at that time.image

    Bear,

I never actually heard you offer a jelly doughnut?? However, I would have respectfully declined as the only doughnuts I truly love are Krisp Kreme's.

Beautiful coin, Bear, along with the others in the other thread. That 1880 half just jumps off the screen.

And, hi, Mike! I hadn't known you'd joined the boards; welcome. You sold me some nifty toned proof Jeffs a few months ago.

Great coin Bear! I love those bust quarters!

Mike: Can you get me one in a nice AU-58, I don't have as many jelly donuts to donate to such a worthy example, but I would still like A example.

    Congratulations Bear, wonderful quarter.
