Fake. Bad color and those spots on the reverse also give it away.

This one came from a 20 plus year stay in a whitman holder. I do bear to differ with some opinions. I have seen about a total of a dozen of these from albums. Maybe they do not turn this way naturally, but is an album a natural enviorment????????????????... Ken
This 1922-D was cleaned and proably polished before it turned this color. It may have been helped by some MS-70 wash, but even if it was not the exposed medal turned this color probably from residues of the stuff that was used to clean it.
I just sold off a complete Lincoln set that had some coins in it that looked this. I packaged them and sold them cheap to a dealer who will sell them to another dealer who will put them on Ebay, perhaps with lines like, "beautiful, colorful choice original toning."

I'd think a cash register or pocket is a natural environment. It's after somebody removes it from change that the coins are tampered with.
