Some good Job news

Well Ladies and Gentlemen, I previously reported back in January that I lost my job in IT (Computers) Interviews were far and few between but a Head Hunter called me two weeks ago about a job and I went on the interview. I thought I had a great interview... I usually take a very honest "This is me" approach but during the interview, I was trying to "sell myself". When the interviewer asked me what the head hunter told me about the job, I sold the fact that he gave me a good education on the company and that is why I wanted this interview so much. I got back and I told the head hunter that the interviewer gave me a good deal of information on the company, I was impressed and I wanted the job.

The head hunter called me back the next week to let me know that although I gave a good interview, they decided to go with someone else. Bummed.... but earlier in the week, the same head hunter called me back and either the first person did not work out or they have another opening. Once again, I expressed my excitement about the interview and let him know I really wanted the job.

I'm starting the job next week! Since I'm going through a consultant firm, it could be a 3 month job... it could be longer... it could be shorter (yikes) but the salary is a bit more than I expected especially with the economy as it is.

I bet you guys won't miss me at all image

  • Good for you! I'm glad you found a place to start. Consultancies often turn to longer-term prospects (as it did with me 12 years ago).

    Good luck!
  • Congrats on the new gig, Dave. Knock 'em dead.

  • Congrats Dakra, all people deserve a job who want a job. I feel fortunate that I'm in the job that I'm in. Paramedic where unfortunatly people need me. I thoroughly enjoy what I do which means for me it's not like working a job at all.image

  • Congratulations....happy thing to hear. Best of Luck.

  • Sorry I didn't reply sooner, I had to head to NYC to meet with the Consulting guy. It was kind of strange, as I rode the train back from the city, it finally hit me that I have a job! It was nice to get some SAG's and a Hag (SBA) in change from the Ticket machine. Before I went home I went into Subway and they have a dish of change... sitting in that change was a 1949-D Jefferson that I am now the proud owner of.

I'm hoping the job is not one of those short term things, the consultant guy says he has had people there for years. I need the stability! ...and I think I will use my first ...err make it my second, to buy myself a nice peace dollar and some "junk" coins.

Kinda ironic you replied to my thread about making a living selling coins mentioning losing your job. Maybe your reply helped you land your new one. image Congrats to you and may it be a god one. I feel fortunate to have had mine for over 15 years, but my gut feeling is that the IT gravy train in general may be coming to an end. There will still be some 'hot' areas, but they will be tougher to get. Go out and get a St. Gaudens $20 gold piece; I heard there's a 1933 available... image

    Good for you Dave
Things are real tuff in the IT arena. I am still at it for now but have switched gears and moved over to the high end area of the business building custom racks with tons of video conference equipment and spy equipment that works over IP. The salary increased with the move. I am now making more money then some of the high end Cisco certified folks ,but the work is nerve racking and everything has to be so precise and according to blueprint. Cabling is a nightmare and i HATE tipping Fiber Optic ends, but i am working and thats the bottom line. Hang in there and Give it your all.
