Juz bit*hin'

Man oh man...just as I get into this coin collecting deal and doing pretty well with the sets that I am putting together and looking into new sets to start, money becomes major issue. It was fun as I started and now Whammo! I don't know if it's my crappy paying job, college loans, paying all the bills while girlfriend finds a job, paying for grad school out of pocket, or just buying an engagement ring but man money goes fast. So now I have to go through my early purchases <bullion> get a digi camera and start selling some stuff. This sucks, you people out there with the money to buy whatever coins you want are lucky (I'm not talking $5,000 coins here either).

Alright that's all just needed to vent a little bit...sorry for wasting your time but if I complain I can't buy coins to my girlfriend she just says good and laughs at me image

Please don't take this as criticism, but at least you HAVE a job... image

    could be worse. image
  • image I have the same problem you do, after a while i just gave up putting sets together and bought coins that caught my eye, I mean my merc set was done except for the 16-D after having that hole for a while i figured no one sees the back of the coin anyway so i might as well put in a plain 1916 after all they look the same so no one can tell unless they pull it out.

Ditto what Dan C. said, last year I sold off most of my Morgans (MS and PR) and Lincolns to pay off the house and cars. I say the layoff coming and now I'm glad I did. Been 7 months with out a job.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

Yeah I know that I am fortunate to have a job...there will always be individuals worse off I realize that, heck there are people out there that don't collect coins! I was just complaining like everyone else does that is why I apoligzed for doing it publically I just don't have anyone else to vent to.

Thanks for taking the time to read it though...and BEST OF LUCK finding new and better jobs

This is my philosophy these days. I'm thinking of taking down my registry sets so I can do that better. I'll keep those coins, though, as I like them and some are more valuable than others.

    hey now

it sounds like you're doing out of necessity what i tend to do out of routine. i binge for a while and then have to sort things out and figure what stays, what goes, what fits and what doesn't. i am blessed with steady employment and grateful for that. you guys who are out of work, just hang tough and do the next right thing in your hunt for employment. something will turn up, so don't give up hope!!!image

  • Sorry to hear that, Dog. I thought we were getting more of the pleasure of your company around here lately. Sorry to hear it may be for that reason. Well, your former employer's loss is our gain.

I am sorry to hear your troubled. I was unemployed for 18 months. We nearly lost the house. Then my Dad died. I nearly sold the coin collection. I was offered a eight dollar an hour job the same day I was to close the deal. I decided that was a sign to hold on. After several months trying to support my family and debts on eight dollars an hour I am now back to the rate I was at when I was 28! So it was a long, hard, fall. I have walked your path and brother it ain't a good thing. Seek support from unemployment insurance, welfare, and your local christian affiliates.

God bless all unemployed people, they have the heart of a lion and the shoulders of Samson!
