That is a good question. I'll be totally honest with you.
I love to create good images. It is very challenging. The appearance of a coin varies dramatically with many variables. Capturing the essence of a coin is like shooting a moving target. That is not easy to do. But when you get it right, you know it. The image when done right just reeks (to me) of authenticity.
I also love the hunt for gorgeous coins. They are very hard to find at sane prices. Most people who own incredible coins sell them last.
I also love to write. (Yes, i know, i have digital diarrhea.) I know i'm not a technician so i have to do the best i can which is why i focus on strategy, humor and other things. (Just the phrase "Die variety" can make me glaze over.)
Finally, i love the challenge of the business aspects of coins. Trying to balance all of the parameters (what to pay, how much to ask, how to find the coins, what to buy, how to keep law and family and coins in balance) is challenging.
I fail all the time, but it is a source of stimulation...which i love.
Here's the write-up i did on the Barber. I thought it was worth putting in here....it capsulizes many of my thoughts:
"A moose. As you can see, the obverse is a vibrant blue, magenta and gold. The reverse is essentially white and of no consequence however, a little cobalt blue and antique gold toning has crept onto the bottom from the obverse. If I collected coins, which I don't, I would only buy and keep coins of this caliber. Really, really gorgeous coins are way too cheap right now, in my opinion. Imagine just one box of 20 coins like this one versus a hernia producing assemblage of average coins. They can cost the same. You know why guys have large assemblages of average coins? A lack of self-control and self-confidence. (Don't worry, if you're breathing, there's still hope, although if your doing it with oxygen tubes up your nose, you might want to git after it.) Resisting average coins isn't easy because even average coins are pretty cool, ya know, like as compared to a collection of cook books. No one has unlimited funds so in order to have the dough to buy monsters, you have to resist the average coins. With regard to self-confidence, no one puts together a collection of monsters unless they are confident of what they are doing (not to say that monster collectors don't make mistakes). Anyone can buy ugly coins at Bluesheet but getting a feel for what to pay for monsters doesn't come out of a book. You have to look at a lot of coins and go with your gut, and stop asking your friends if you got a good deal. Monsters are rarely cheap. Just know that anyone who collects for many years makes mistakes. Just don't make the biggest mistake of all which is collecting average coins."
Man Adrian..... that's one profound profundity! But, you are right of course. I want to sell all the avg stuff in my collection, that I bought when I first got into the hobby, and turn it into 1 or 2 nice coins. I finally got to a point years ago where I learned this. I've held on my less desireable, or avg stuff for years so as not to lose my buttocks when I sold. Hmmm, what's in Adrians Inventory????
Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground.
With all due respect, there are countless beautiful coins that will never be called "monsters."
Thank you, sweet Jesus.

<< <i>Right now it's like 26 degrees Fahrenheit (sp?) in Dallas. And sleeting. I love this kind of weather.
I am loving this sleet(sp?)/hail/snow.

Yeah, they do look a lot alike.
