making Long Beach affordable

lavalava Posts: 3,286 ✭✭✭
So does anyone care to share their tips on how to make this show more affordable. I would be looking at a plane ticket, a hotel room and a rental car, and would probably stay three days if I went. So, I'd probably be in this thing for $1,000. Does that seem about right? I have a hard time believing everyone is shelling out that kind of money. Any thoughts?
I brake for ear bars.

  • Carpool with somebody to save yourself $6 on parking.
  • Maybe you don't need a car? When I went the hotel had a shuttle service. It wasn't right downtown because it was a little cheaper hotel...

I try to get a cyberfare and just go for the day ($250 with car). If staying the night, PriceLine.com can really cut the cost of hotels. The cheapest I've ever done for 3 days at LB is $500....that includes eating at the auctions to save dinner money.

I have never been to LB, but my standard travel tip suggestion is to see if any other airports near there would get you a cheaper airfare. Sometimes you can save a lot on airfare if you don't mind driving a couple of hours.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

  • I live three and a half hours away and usually carpool with three other local coin guys. We make it a 1 day trip and pay for meals and gas.

  • I'll probably spend a few bucks on gas, $6 on parking and whatever the admission is! This is one benefit of living about 10 miles away!image

Seriously, there may be some good websites with cheaper airfares and/or hotel rooms. I don't know however, as I rarely travel.

You better start planning for the next one because there are no airfare bargains booked 3 days before travel.

That's partly true - if you keep your eyes open, there are bargains. For instance, I could go Wed. or Thurs. thru Sat. and buy a ticket now (from Seattle) for $179. So, depending on where you live, check the cyberfairs and also Priceline.

For NEXT time, since you're too late for any good deals this time.

You can find an acceptible hotel for under $80 that is walking distance from the show. Only a short cab ride from the airport. No parking fees, which saves $8 a day.

Flights are about $475 including taxes.

Do you need a car? Where are you going?

Bring a coin club ID or make one on your computer and save on admission.

Here is how to lose the affordable part. I planned to go to LB a month ago. Got cheap airfare. Just had a business problem that was going to keep me from going, so l had to cancel my flight. Took care of the unexpected problem I was having and re-booked my flight. So after a 25.00 cancel fee, and the no notice flight... needless to say I had to pay full fare now. Maybe one of these dealers on here will feel sorry for me and give me a good deal? Maybe I shouldn't hold my breath huh?

  • I live in Hawaii so airfare to LAX is usually expensive, $350 or higher. (The airlines really gouge you since its a tourist destination) I just have to wait till I have a business trip to LA the same time as the LB show, so the company will pay for hotel and airfare. Too bad though, I don't think that's happening anytime soon. image

  • Priceline is the only way to go! Choose South Long Beach area, enter $50 for **** Hotel and it will say "if you add $14 you may get it". Enter $64 and you will be staying at The Weston, quaranteed! Same goes for Plane ticket and Rental Car, dont be afraid to enter a ridiculously low price, I flew round trip from Ca to Florida for $150 and $15 for an SUV(was suppose to be a Midsize Car but I complained about the slow service and got an upgrade)!
You can fool man but you can't fool God! He knows why you do what you do!
  • By the way, Im in Ca but I like to stay in Long Beach after partying all night, I only live 45 mins away! I will be there on Sat.

  • Move to Long Beach.I hear Hawaii is really exspensive.
