Washington-Success Medal Large Size, Pl. Edge PCGS MS63
According to Walter Breen, some numismatic researchers believe these pieces were struck in commemoration of Washington's Second Inagural (March 1793) but there is no documentaion of this theory. It is also believed that they were produced between 1792 and 1795, as the reverse bears 15 stars, representing the 15 states, Tennessee not having become the 16th state until 1796. Interestingly, it is not even known if these medals were struck in the U.S. or not! The present specimen bears no noticeable man-made flaws on either side. In fact, the only feature worth noting is a mint-made die crack on the obverse. It runs from the rim at 11:00, through Washington's hair, cheek and nose, and finally through the"N" in "WASHINGTON" to the rim. A very cool and historical item
