i'll bet he's running the auction under someone else's name, changed the e-mail and will try to collect the money. the buyers will have no recourse with the scammer, only the ebay seller.
this scenario would be a little more believable if there was more at stake. i don't know if 20 counts of mail fraud is worth $100.
