I don't know if gsaguy (Bryan) sells them or just hoards them in his private vault, but I've been told he has "one or two" nice ones. image

GSAGUY has some of the best Toned morgans in the coin business. He also hoards those coins. image

His collection, if divided in half would still be the number one and number two collection, from what i have seen and know.

    I will second that statement.

I would suggest you PM gsaguy but wouldn't suggest that you should think you will be able to pry those wonderful coins from him. It is indeed a rare pleasure to sit with him at a major show and be handed coin after coin that is superb!

Mr. Bear - I think you will be very pleased in your dealings with GSAGUY, but alas - I don't think he hoards jelly donuts!!! image
  • imageCheck out the Rainbow Auctions on Teletrade! At times, they have at least 50 Franklins, and one auction I counted over 300 Morgans, mostly Binions! The down side is they don't picture them all, and I wish they did!image

I don't recall a single case where a toned Morgan graded MS65 or better in a Teletrade Rainbow sale did not have a picture. I suspect the same thing probably applies to MS64 pieces as well.

Bryan allowed me and my wife a private viewing of his colorful Morgans at the last Long Beach coin show. I was dumbfounded and amazed at not just the color but the overall quality of each and every one he owns.
At the end of our session Bryan leans into me and mutters, "this isn't even my 'A' Box stuff. The really good ones I left at home".

It almost made me want to stop collecting altogether. Bryan owns them all!

  • image The average for a Morgan is MS 64 regardless of toning, but you have too watch for the Rainbow Binion sales! My GOD, the guy had several hundred thousand in face value alone!image Vegas Gambling, go figure!image

Hi Bear, MBcoins has a ebay store and does auctions. He also comes on the board once in a while. I have had some dealings with him and found him to be great. He answered any questions right away, he ships right away, and doesn't play the hostage feedback game. He didn't even know me and shipped my coin and I shipped my check at the same time. Remember the purple lady Morgan that you liked ? It came from him. Anyway here is a link to his Ebay store. I think I saw on his page that he welcomes offers. Hope this helps.

Thanks for those kind words all. I can honestly say that it's a pleasure to show coins from my toned dollar collection to those that really appreciate the beauty of the coins.

Bear, despite what some have said, I actually do sell a pretty neat coin from time to time. If you'd like to add me to your list of dealers for toned Morgans (and even an occassional Franklin), I'd be pleased to work with you. We can communicate through whatever means you like.image

I do know of two Franklin guys that are fairly low key, but have specialized for well over twenty years. They have had some killer pieces.
I don't know if it would be cool to display thier names publicly. If you want to, PM to remind me, and I'll call to see if it's cool to give you thier info.

Morganluver is one of the best! I have purchased over a dozen beautifully toned coins from Richard and have never been dissapointed.image
Paragon Numismatics (Andy Kimmel) is also a great resource.
  • Dealers that i recommend who handle toned morgans --

(and let me say this before you embark upon attempting to collect toned morgans - what turns you on may not turn someone else on. The best cost a fortune but are very cool. It's a thin market so if you pay $2500 for one, don't expect your local shop to think you got a good deal.)

Bryan Sonnier - (GSAguy here on the board) has the finest personal collection but holds it with white knuckles - meet him at shows and ply him with coffee and compliments and you MIGHT get a stunner. Always charges reasonable prices. His best will make you contemplate felonious behavior. Don't do it. They're just coins. Also, don't stare at his head.

Bryan Orsborn (Texas Bullion Traders - here on the board) - has good coins, good prices, easy to pick off. His very best usually end up in either my inventory or Sonnier's. What i would do is just call him periodically and tell him that you're drunk and in the mood to overpay for his very best and that you'll just send him, today, a check for $2,000 and would you please just send $2,000 of the best with an invoice.

Andy Kimmel - has great coins and great prices. Don't tell him that you're a dealer. Phone and shows. Has a web site.

Morganluver - Richard Courson - eBay and here on the boards - great coins, fair prices, extremely high resolution images are usually posted. Small inventory that sells quickly. Has a good eye.

Dale Larsen - now works for Spectrum, has a good eye (will pick you off) and access to large numbers of coins, some of which will be good toned Morgans.

Adrian Crane - Anaconda Rare Coins - has good coins, not cheap, has no personal collection and pays crazy money for crazy coins. Don't bother sending him emails - you're best off to just call him (972-671-5050). He's pretty friendly (he'll talk your ear off - just ask Sonnier) but super busy. Has a few personality defects but none that require you to be armed in his presence.

Also, i would contact Laura Sperber with Legend and Mark Feld with Pinnacle - they don't generally focus on monster toned morgans but they go to shows all the time and would probably try to help you out.

    snake

I forgot to add Mike DeFalco. Good coins, especially tougher date Morgans. Has a good eye.

  • adrian:

very good (and funny)stuff. I agree with you on the Bryan post. He has great stuff at fair prices. the few coins I have bought from him from his good list are nice and I will definately be buying more.

I would like to thank you folks who included me on your list of sources for toned coins. I've sold coins to all on the current list but one and have purchased from most as well. I'm not as large of a "trader" as these knowledgeable people, but continue to find beautifully toned coins of ALL denominations. I have been selling privately for the past month or two as opposed to E-Bay but may list more material on E-Bay soon. In the mean time, if anyone would like to contact me, whether it be for coins or to just "talk" coins, please feel free to do so via PM etc. As I stated before, every one of the people mentioned are extremely knowledgeable in the toned arena an in fact are my and your direct competition which makes the pursuit interesting and fun to say the least.

    GSAGUY

Had I known that you still had more "MONSTERS" stashed back home I would have followed you home and forced you to show them to me. You big tease. I do, however, appreciate you showing me your "culls" at FUN. LOL

I would like to thank everyone for your overwhelming help on this thread. I contacted a number

of recommended sources that included Anaconda,Wayne Herndon and Mike DeFalco .

I was able to purchase a number of mind blowing dollars both toned and PLDC , they should all

be arriving over the next 2-4 days. All the dealers mentioned were kind, considerate and most helpful.

I would have called more dealers but I spent all of my money and then some. Actually two additional

dealers are going to get back to me. Thank goodness for credit cards.image

Also bought some commemoratives from Mark Feld at Pinnacle and a bunch of top of the line Type coins

From Laura at Legend Numismatics. Also am getting some type proof and a bunch of toned Franklins

from Rick Tomaska at R&I Coins. Finally purchased three monster dollars from Adrian, our very own

Anaconda. As you may guess, the coins were not cheap, but outstanding toned coins never are.

Frank, I just hold up a few liquer stores every week and I have my coin money.

Actually as I sell off my Proof Washington Quarters, I am putting the money into type,

silcer commems and toned dollars. Kind of spreading my numismatic holdings in several

interesting areas. Makes more sence to me then throwing it at the stock market. Anyway,

this is more fun. As for giving up my new beautiful dollars, when they pry my cold dead fingers

    of those coins, maybe then.
