ANACONDA has his 'Blue Barber', I've got my "Blue Eagle"

I love wonderfully toned Classic coinage, but for the most part, outside of Morgans, have a tough time floating the arguement of buying and owning these with my wife. She will relent, on occasion though, and allow me one of these:

It's more purple than blue, but then my header wouldn't make sense. . . image

  • Man, that's a cool coin. The two Bryans (sonnier and orsborn) somehow come into these on occasion. (They share tables in the Tx/La/Ark areas.) I have one cool toned one but i can't remember what it looks like.

Someone told me that out of every box of 500 one ounce eagles, you may get two or three that are next to something which causes them to tone like that and that's why PCGS slabs them - they are aware of this particular situation. I have two boxes of them that i've had for a while and should probably check them out. They come, if memory serves me right, in white tubes holding 10 or 20 coins each.

If anyone has found these raw, i'd be interested in knowing what circumstances they are found in that cause them to tone.

Pat thats awesome toning. what make it turn that beautiful red. I left a 2002 mint state silver eagle in the window for 10 month and it tone gold.

I hate it when you see my post before I can edit the spelling.

I think it helps that it is a Proof (nice, relective mirrors) and as Adrian pointed out- the housing of these has to be "just right" and even then it's a crap shoot.

I remember looking at the one you have. it has more of a bullseye toning to it. if I remember right it's colors are more of a red with white specs in the toning (I almost bought it)

If anyone finds out exactly what causes this toning and confirms it I sure would like to know as I saw a 2000 or 2002 Eagle that had the purple look to it.
