What stories will you tell your Grandchildren?

This day in age is a great time to be in the hobby, I think I will make sure I know the complete 1933 Double Eage story, and pass that one on.

There are many other stories, such as the State Quarters and the Sacagawea start...

What are you going to pass along?

I think it will be about coins that came out in my life time. Memorial cent was the first I can rember than the Kennedy half. My two oldest sons where born in 75 and 76 so for sure there will be the bicentennials. they still don't know why I call them type 1 and 2. The SBA, Sac and state quarters will be stories for the kids to tell there grandchildren

I'll probably tell them about all the nice coins I wish I had kept. I always hate selling any of them.image

  • Hard question, because stories are alot easier to tell looking back 20 years and seeing what happened. I would say the rise in the prices for the $million dollar coins.

  • I'll suggest to them that they (1) Join a forum like this one (2) Start a registry set early in their lives and set high standards ie. Peace Dollars '21- '35 MS 65 or better... SLQ's '16 - '30 AU50 or better (3) Keep your mouth shut and listen, you'll learn a lot.(4) Don't buy Franklins! Twowood image

Yes, the old coins that used to be in circulation are gone and will never be back. It's
no consolation to most people but the coins in circulation now are much older than
they were back when I started in 1960.

...And no one has bothered to pull out all the good ones as they had by 1960.

...Sounds like a story for the grandkids.

I will tell them that when I was I kid. there were only 4 TV stations: CBS, ABC, NBC, and PBS. When the President came on, we were screwed because all 4 stations carried the same broadcast.

PCGS- 'professional circus guarantee service', something about a story of children, a clown, and some slabs.image

    TRUTH
  • " Once upon a time, people used to collect plastic slabs with funny number codes on them...and see who could get the most slabs with the highest numbers..."

" Once upon a time, there used to be coins that weren't cleaned or dipped"

" Once upon a time, the government tried to circulate these silly looking gold colored coins called Sac dollars."

I wish there was an emote selection for "tounge in cheek"
  • Well, no kids, but:

Once upon a time, telephones were in one place in the house and you had to sit next to them to talk and it was a BIG DEAL when the phone rang, because it might be BIG NEWS of GREAT IMPORT and you had to STOP WHAT YOU WERE DOING and ANSWER. Interruptions were important. I sort of remember it like that.

Oh - plus: my aunt had one of those old TVs in the big Radio cabinet with the tiny tiny square screen and if more than one person watched you had to (literally) sit arm-in-arm.

I have been passing along the stories of me and my grandpa looking over his Morgan dollar bag. His first question to me was "poppy how much money is in that bag" I told him that when it was made it was $1000 dollars but now it is worth much more. He then asked me "poppy how much is my can of coins worth now?"image

  • True story:

A friend's daughter went to her and asked "Momma is it true when you were little, you didn't have an icemaker and had to fill metal trays with water and carry them to the freezer?"
