no, based on those marks alone, the first coin looks 64 and the second 65-66

if they both got 67, one or more of the following:

The strike on these is magnificent, how do the eagle's breast feathers look? wing tips? beak?

the luster is extraordinary! scans don't show luster, maybe they're blindingly coruscating!

they were submitted on the day the graders were being lenient, toking ganja, or just looked at a bunch of very ugly MS60's and 61s

they were submitted by a "friend" or "very good customer" of the grading service image

    NO WAY
  • Insane! If these are 67, regardless of extraordinary luster or strike, then I have rolls and rolls of 67's. I am rich! I am rich! YeeeeeeHa! Oh, wait, I can't get my coins into a 67 slab because I am not Heritage.

why not? it's just someone's (ngc's) opinion. you are free to disagree. the "grade" is not an inherent property of the coin, it's a property of how YOU value the coin.

btw, despite their claims to the contrary, heritage's imaging is brutally awful, isn't it?

The first pic especially is hard to believe. You cite a good example
that does not help the cause for grading service reliability.

Does NGC have registry sets? If so, it counts for that purpose.

for registry sets you don't even need the coin itself, just the tag image

dorrkarl is right, value the coin as you please if it's sight seen.

raw these are worth 65 money maybe 66 sight seen

in the holder they're worth 67 money sight unseen only because of the plastic.

so what are they priced at?

  • The top one is a 43-D asking price = $195.50

    Botton one is a 43-S asking price = $264.50

Those are significant dings on Georges cheek to be 67. I wouldn't be willing to pat 67 money for those.

    Jim,

I'd really like to see those coins in person before I spoke, but I'd be willing to bet (although not $250) that the marks you see in the scan are not contact marks, but disturbance in the luster. Very high grade early silver Washingtons that have full frost are extremely easy to disturb. NGC wouldn't grade a coin with the marks those appear to have at 67, IMO, and what you are seeing is an overcooked image that is unfair to the pieces. That said, because of the images, I'd not be a buyer sight-unseen.

  • Okay... I want this coin. You think David will give it to me for 47$ ?

    disturbance in the luster

i don't think the ding in front of the face on the one coin and the ding on the jawline of the other fit that description. they are rather obvious bagmarks. singular though they are, their location couldn't be worse. minus those contacts i would think MS67, but not with them in those locations. i vote pass at those prices.

  • Clearly, a couple of "favor" coins. I've never believed either of the big 2 when they claim that graders are not aware of who submitted the coin or of their recent submission volumn. Those coins belong in a 65 holder, at best! image

More overgraded crap. Sight seen they may bring 5 money. The only person who will pay more
for either coin is someone who will try and scam a newbie with the plastic, or said newbie in
    person.

  • Those Heritage coins didn't sell in the auction last night, and I can see why. Here is one of my NGC 67 Washington's I think is correctly graded to compare.
