1996-W MS-68 Rosie Up to $101.00 on eBay!

Cameo Coin Co. listed it, and it still has 4 days to go. I'm watching it, as I recently got one back from PCGS in the same grade. I looked through 6 1996 mint sets and sent in the one I thought might grade 67 or 68.

I sold an NGC 68 and 67 a few months ago. If I remember right I got about $50 for the 67 and $150 for the 68? mike image
  • I think I got around $150 ( may have been $100 ) for a PCGS MS68 about a year ago when I started it at .01 with no reserve.

i used to see plenty of uncertified w-dimes that i thought would hit at least 66, but they only cost about five bucks. i guess i'd rather have 20 nice ones than one over-hyped 1.

..........and karl, your point would be??? i think in attempting to criticize the coin you have inadvertantly given credence to it's lack of ease in the higher grade. while it is quite common in MS66 and lower, it does become somewhat more difficult in PQ higher grades and does have some numismatic significance due to the "W" mintmark, it's current deplorable holdered state not-withstanding.

faced with a choice of coins for my modern type set, i chose to fill the clad roosevelt slot with a 1996-W in a green PCGS MS68 holder. my reasoning for the green holdered coin was that hopefully it had less chance to obtain rub or of changing color in the holder since it was likely slabbed soon after minting. that was about a 8 months ago and i paid slightly more than the current level of this coin.

hey bob, go for it if it stays close to where it is, but watch out for aaron!!!!

hey, i wasn't criticizing the coin. i am trying to point out that if you are willing to settle for about 2 points less, you can save 100 bucks. honestly, if you just want a nice 1996-W dime, if you just gotta have one, of the 2 choices below, which would you rather have:

    (1) one hand tied behind your back, the other filled with the hefty comfort of plastic holder that someone else has printed ms-68 on

    or

    (2) a hundred dollar bill in one hand that you can do anything you want with, & a really nice 1996-W dime in the other hand, that you can do anything you want with (after all, it only cost you five bucks).

this all assumes you would have to settle for 2 points less - i bet you could settle for just ONE point less, & still have both options avaialble.

    THAT is the point! image

.........though your point is well made, i would rather have Bob's choice, which would be #3.

#3. one hand gripping his freshly graded MS68 1996-W Roosevelt dime, and one eye glued to the PC screen, and the option of selling at a nice profit.

This coin isn't too dificult in MS-66. Look at fifteen or twenty '96 mint sets and one
should go at least that high. It can be difficult to find that many '96 sets in one place
though. Then the set is going to cost around $18. If you have access to sets then that
would be an excellent way to acquire this coin. It will cost well over $5 in any case though
since wholesale is well over that.

    great!

one minor point, you mean "freshly slabed". the coin is already "graded".
