Question for Slab Collectors

Is there a premium for the early ANA graded slabs (the predecessor of ANACS)?
I have a 1924 St. Gaudens in a MS 62 holder and thought I'd ask, since I knoew next to nothing about slab collecting...
Thanks for the help!

I thought we collected coins. Didn't know there were "slab" collectors.

  • There are less of the early ANACS holders, since alot of them have been cracked out or resubmitted. The value wouldn't be much more because of the slab.

  • There's a lot more slab collectors than you might realize. image

I'd consider condor one, and all those that purchase the sample slabs are collecting them

There's no prem for regular issue slabs unless it's a rare NGC black.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • I have an awesome old ANA holder, MS62 Liberty Nickel. The coin I'd say is MS64. From what I've seen in past Ebay auctions, these old ANA holders almost always carry a premium.

John, Last night I read on auction on eBay where the seller was highlighting the fact his ANACS coin was in an older holder. I'm not real clear if the grading was tighter for them then or not or if there is a premium or collector value for older ANACS holders. Probably not.
Unlike NGC first and second generation holders that do carry a premium.

It's interesting how Sample Slabs and various generation of slabs from some of the services are taking on a collecting slice of the pie in and of themselves.
I know there are also some collectors who enjoy "error" (usually insert error) Slabs as a diversion.

  • Isn't it amusing how some folks contribute to a thread and some just like to instigate!!!
  • If I can ever get this blasted book out into the publics hands we may see even more interest in the collecting of the slabs themselves. image
