To collect high end coins, in this day and age, I believe you have to be part lawyer, part grader, part private detective, and have enough time and money to regularly visit a psychiatrist. I want to write more but I have to keep an impotant appointment today.

The fun of being a collector. Hmmmmmmmmm. For me ists in meeting new people that like what I like. The thrill of the hunt in looking for coins I like and need for my collection. In helping the younger newbeeies. I got both of my nephews into collecting lincolns. Heck their dad is kinda into it now. Ohhhhh ya and I like looking at all the GOLD SILVER PLATINUM wow wow wow wow always gets my heart thumping. And then there is the thrill of finding something thats been hidden or forgotten somewhere and bringing it back into the light . (my 1931S I got last night was covered with a bunch of gunk) .

Those are some of my ideas of making collecting fun.

My father visited the USA in 1980. When he came back he gave me some pocket change. A couple of Dollar bills, quarters etc. I was fascinated with the pictures of important looking people in far off countries. I think the idea of a shiny treasure from far away is what got me started and keeps me interested even today.

I know what you mean. I think my first actual coins was a 1982 mint set from Hungary from the world's fair in Knoxville here. Don't have it any more, though. I wasn't very good managing coins when I was 9.
