Cecil Total Copper Nutcase - African, British Ships, Channel Islands!!! 'Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup'
The rims were well struck but the wear is too much to tell if the Buff's head was struck well originally....I think. I'm NOT a cir Buff expert but it seems like a VERY nice cir example.
I must be a tougher grader than the rest of you, but I give it a VG-10. It's a nice, circulated buffalo but in my opinion the detail is lacking to be a Fine (let alone a VF). And yes, I know the 1924-S was weakly struck.
The 24S was very weakly struck and is tough to grade. I saw a PCGS MS 40 that barely had a full horn, and I think that is the norm for this date. There is a huge price jump between F & VF pricing on this coin. People in the know won't pay VF $ for one of them unless they see the full horn, irrespective of what the slab says.
I'd say this is a VG 10; there isn't enough detail on the reverse to justify a higher grade. You can hardly see any detail on the tail, and the horn IMO is not 2/3 full.

VF 15. The wear on the rims and the hip show a typical strike from worn reverse die, with further wear. Tough to grade these, opinions will be like pollen.
The coin IMO would grade a Fine -12. The original strike on this coin was actually pretty good when it was new, judging by what is left.
There are several coins being graded by the major grading services as VF without full-horns, including infamous PCGS. They are stating that they are basing on overall wear, and that may be, but, Dont be fooled into paying the vf money for these, there are enough coins out there with nice full horn detail in VF to find one that suits you.
The original reason of the monster price jump between Fine and very fine is because of the horn. If its not there and full, dont pay the money. We can talk weak strike all day long, but these coins are not worth the vf and xf money without the detail being present whether it was wear or strike??????? jim d
