USPS Half Dollar

Hi, I have been following these boards for a while and this is my first post...finally. I'm an amateur collector with mostly world coins. I recently bought some stamps from a vending machine at the local Post Office and received this coin as change. According to the 2002 Krause edition, this is a "Bicentennial design". Could someone give me an idea of the quality and if it's a really common coin.

I took the picture with a Sony DSC-F505V and made it a little brighter in Photoshop. It's fairly close to what the real coin looks like.

AU, and very common I'll say worth just over 50 cents maybe 75 cents if your lucky.

Welcome to the forums. The bicentennial coins are very common, but neat to get from time to time. What are your favorite coins to collect?

Thanks nwcs, I have very few American coins. I'm from South Africa and have been in the US for 3 years. I think my best US coins are the 1883 Morgan (in original Carson City slab) and a Buffalo Silver Dollar. I think it came out in 2000. I just love this coin, the design is really nice. The American Eagle silver proofs are also very nice. I think of these the Morgan would be my favorite and I would love to get more of them.

I'm an amateur collector with mainly world coins and paper money. As far as world coins go, South African coins always catch my eye. When it comes to paper money I cannot say no to notes from Iran with Shah Pahlavi's image. There are quite a few really nice ones on eBay right now, but i spent my budget on the new Canada Dollar.

I have a few south african coins. I believe it's a shilling and 2 shilling coin. But I haven't seen them for a while. They're from the 30s. One thing, when you start reading threads here you're going to get inspired to spend lots of money!

Hi Gristlebeard, welcome to the forum.

Always good to have someone interested in all kinds of coins around. In case you don't know, there is also a World Coins forum here at Collector's Universe.

This is a great place to learn about coins. Don't hesitate to keep doing what you did. Post a coin image and ask some questions about it. It works pretty well.
