  • That's a fantastic price.

I bought one for my set, year ago, from DH, and I paid $2,200. The CU price guide shows $4.950 for this coin.image

  • Wow, awesome. Extremely hard coin to find in DCAM! Did you search through proof sets to find this coin?

Please give us details. This is not something one finds every day, but if you look hard enough I guess they're still out there - the question is where. Great job in finding one. image

  • Thank you Guys.
The history is so very interesting that I will share.
I bought this coin in EBay graded as PR65DCAM. I don't know as recover the thread, but this coin was title of one in that time.
Here in forum, during the auction, someone (sorry but I really don't remember who did) suggested, if I will win, send the coin to NCS because looks so bad.
I won and sent the coin to professional cleaning, and it returned so beautiful that I submitted it with confidence to goes to PR66DCAM, but I never expected that return as PR67DCAM.

    Edson,

I remember the coin. It had a huge milk spot on the obverse, and I think it was listed on eBay by forum member Koincollector.

EDIT: Here's the original thread in BST. It was "coynclecter" that sold it.

  • Russ,

Thank you for retrieve the thread.
Was Pontiacinf that suggested the cleaning Service. Thank you.

For others understand, Ponticinf suggested in that time:

"I think 410 is more than enough for that, its not the the holy grail peice...

I agree with Bill, you shouldve done the NCS thing first...might
have even picked up a pt or 2."

    He was absolutely right.

    From the original thread...

<< <i>I'm trying to think of some benefit I can offer the forum members, I decided to pay shipping and insurance for forum members only. It might be a good trend. >>

I think providing a 67DCAM is benefit enough.

Too bad he didn't advertise it as this SHOULD be in a 67 holder - it would have been the first time in history a SHOULD BE ad was true.

I knew I should have bid higher in that auction.

..........some coins in DCAM are so scarce that i feel warranted in taking a chance on them. for me the accented hair kennedy's are included with the SMS coinage, all denominations. sound investment coins for me with a good upside.

great upgrade on that one. hold it for the long term cause i bet the pops aren't going to climb by much.

  • Keets,

    Thank you for the advice.
I'm working in put together a second set, and I will "forget" this coin inside or I will trade for other good coin for the main set.

For all of us that were at the Registry Reception at FUN, remember David Hall's comment when asked why PCGS didn't have a conservation service. He said in his opinion "NCS is going to ruin a lot of coins". Egsantos, too bad your coin got ruined. image

<< <i>He said in his opinion "NCS is going to ruin a lot of coins". >>

Translation: We didn't think of it first, and now we're too embarassed to admit it was a great move on NGC's part.

    Russ, NCNE
  • Russ,

    I totally agree with you.
Think about a "Professional Recovery and Cleaning Service" connected with PCGS, where the customers have, at least, the guarantee of same grade after the service, as NCS already provide.

Some times, no matter if the idea is not original. Still be a great idea and can be improved. I'm glad to be shareholder of such company.

  • David Hall is just merely playing on the grading politics. I think that comment was absolutely unnecessary for him to make. If NCS "ruins" coins, then why is PCGS grading coins that have been professionally restored? I think that we need to make and form our own opinions about the service, rather then having someone trying to "brainwash" us, merely because they didn't think of it first.

  • Littlewicher:

Mr. Hall wasn't brainwashing anyone. He was there and gave one sentence about his own opinion about NCS. I remember him saying that NCS in his own opinion "ruins alot of coins" and not all coins.

    Cameron Kiefer
  • What proof does he have, though, of any coins being ruined? Everyone that I know who has sent coins to NCS, they've all been satisfied with the results.

  • You answer your question in the previous comment:

<< <i>If NCS "ruins" coins, then why is PCGS grading coins that have been professionally restored? >>

Maybe some of them have been ruined and became bodybag coins.

And don't forget, PCGS does conserve coins for "special" customers, just not us.

I guess they like to ruin those coins.
