Your opinion on the potential California quarter design featured in CW and NN.:Link provided.

The design has been featured in CW and NN. It is one of the 12 or 20 finalists.
I can't remember the exact number. Has anyone seen it? It features Minerva and
a grizzly bear gazing into the sunset. It is one of the most beautiful and powerful
designs on any coin I have ever seen, which probably means its not politically correct enough and won't be selected. I have gone through this before on other states,
I see something I like and it does not get picked. Has anyone seen the design I
am talking about and if so, what are your thoughts?(See Link below in Steve's response) )

Brian.

Here's a link to all the possible designs for the California state quarter Link. If you're referring to number 12, it's my favorite, but it doesn't appear to be liked by many others.

Can't say I like #12 all that much. Some look like travel brochures; others have the obligatory state outline. My favorite is #17. Sliced from a tree; the designer was so impatient he wants the coin issued in 2004; a year ahead of time. I shouldn't be so picky but the year of statehood is also wrong. How does THAT not get caught? imageimage If these are the best, imagine the ones that got left behind

Wow, my favorite design has very few votes on that site.
Holy cow. Just tells you how subjective it is.

  • I liked #13, but I can't help but wonder when the "pissing miner" would show up. It would seem inevitable wouldn't it? image

image, I guess diecracks are still collectible.

  • I can applaud number 12's daring to be different. Something about the total design though isn't working for me. But, the rest aren't doing much for me either. I would call 12 a good start.

I guess I got more excited about this design than alot of people. I just love
neo-classical and mythological themes. I think the bear looks cool too. This
coin reminds me of classic commems.

  • I voted for number 3.
  • Where's the one with the tofu and quiche?!?!?

Just kidding....I like #3 and #19, I liked the one with the Sequoia, until I clicked on it and got a good look. Too bad they didn't offer a better one with the coolest tree on Earth!

Thank you Brian, I think bears are cool too.

  • I like 3 and 4. but then again I love the Bay Bridge Commm. So that unfairly influences me.

Because none of the designs mention California's contribution to the world of wine, and in particular to Bear's fondness of merlot, all of the designs have earned a collective "growl of disapproval". image
