Picture and Detail of a 57 Mint Set (Large Image)

This is my 57 Mint Set that I am keeping for my collection. I have kept the original outer envelope and packaging but decided to keep the coins in this custom holder. I thought I would share it with you all since I am working with my camera and IrishMike had a thread about 57 Mint Sets yesterday. Clankeye

VERY nice! And that dime on the top row looks awesome.
  • Yes, it is Neil. And the other one in the second row's obverse matches it in color, I just have the reverse out in the holder.

  • Well Clank, nice looking set. I like to keep the old cardboard holders and envelopes also. Its interesting to see the stamps and names of the people who bought them from the Mint.

I still keep my coins in their cardboard spots, unless I've submitted them. Kscope
  • A little further information. I got this set from board member ajaan. It had been his uncle's and in the family since he got it from the mint (by my understanding). It is the nicest set I have had the pleasure to see. I will always be grateful to you, ajaan.

Killer set Clankeye! I share your enthusiasm for this year and have also found locating original rainbow or colorful coinage from this year difficult (much more so than say the 1956 or 1958 sets).

I love that Franklin as it sports my favorite kind of toning on these halves.

Being a dumb IHC collector, tell me why there are 4 sets of coins??

Hope the answer isn't as obvious as "freddies".image

Complete U.S. Mint sets included coins from each mint, "P" & "D" and included two examples of each denomination so as to show off the obverse and reverse.

Very nice. It looks good in the capital hard plastic. Nice mint sets are getting
harder and harder. Nice scans too.

    Clankeye,
Very nice capital plastic set ! If that Frankie half is a D mint it would be scarce with nice color. Is the reverse as nice?

    Paul
  • Paul--
Yes it is a D mint, and yes, the color on the reverse is a match. I agree with you, in searching for 57-D's as singles, I have rarely encountered them with real nice color.

The crescent Franklin takes the take. Good angle for the shot. Thanks for tilting it. You're getting
    good with that camera.image

    Clankeye,
I would send that 57d to PCGS and replace it with another mint set coin. With Nice color on both sides it would be worth slabbing. imo

    Paul

  • Thanks Paul, but at this point I'm just not interested. The set is worth more to me kept together. I don't mean financially, just that it's important to me that this set remains original. I won't enjoy the coin any less non-certified. And since I have an idea of it's worth, why should I do it?

I know that half would grade at least 65, probably 66 FBL. But, I am keeping the set for the long haul. And some day I do believe these original double mint sets will be very, very, very hard to find.

Nice set Clankeye. I've decided to keep mine as is. I was loupeing it at work today and discovered some doubling on one of the washingtons. All the lincolns are shades of red, pink, blue and green and the roosies are spectacular pinks and blues. They just look too nice together. If I decide to get the Nikon fixed for the second time I will post them. Thanks for posting yours.

Nice set Clankeye. I like the idea of keeping it together rather than having the coins individually slabbed. Enjoy!
