You may not like Heritage but.........

I have not had any real issues with Heritage but I know hat many here have.

However, credit should be given where credit is due. The database of prior auctions (with images!!!!!) is by far the best. Easy to search (not tonight...they are down for maintanence), prices paid, etc. is indispensible when trying to do price searches and variety searches. I spent time trying to do a little research and its the best.

  • I love the auction archives also. I have bought lots of coins via the auction route and have been well satisfied. For instance about four months ago I bought a 1952 Franklin Half in an ANACS PR64CAM holder and sent it to PCGS. It came back in a PCGS PR65CAM holder. Get some good deals like that from their auctions at times!

I like Heritage. It is obvious that they listened to their customer base when they designed their web site. Heritage has also continuously improved the site as well. It will be interesting to see what changes they have made when the site comes back up. mdwoods

I love their website, including the archives, the auctions and the ability to list your coins there.

The new zoom in feature on the coin pictures is nice.
  • I have had generally good experiences with Heritage's auctions having bought at least ten coins in the last three months, and their archives are indeed terrific. I have noticed lately that they are using a different format (pan and zoom) for their photographs of coins in the auctions, and the resolution of the image deteriorates for me when I try to zoom. I do not know if anyone else has had the same experience.

I like Heritage. After what they did for our club we really like them to. All the door prizes we gave away Sat & today @ our show were donated courtesy of Heritage. We gave away sample slabs, eagles, mint sets, proof sets and other stuff every 30 minutes for 2 days.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

I'm a little bit torn on heritage, how would you feel if the coin that gave you your worst loss but also the best coin you have both came from heritage? I'll say this for them, they have the best overall features for collectors of any dealer i've ever done business with. I do think the pictures they take of there inventory needs a little more consistancey.

The best coin website, in a league of their own and alone. No one even close.
    Variety
Lots of auctions / sales/ inventory
    Fun auctioneers

    -
Mercurial website, often omits coins which have traded and are in the database
    Terribly disorganized
Half a dozen business office employees with swelled heads
    Marginal images

    I give them a B+ leaning towards an A-

I made a suggestion a while back,That their own auctions should update the values section of My Collection.I hope that is one of the changes!

  • They're a very progressive company that sets the mark in almost all areas.

  • Interestingly enough, a friend of mine said he was going to bring a coin by my office but couldn't give me a price yet because Heritage's auction archives were being temporarily serviced. That shows you how important just one (free!) service is that they provide. Can you imagine how even more useful it will be as the years go by and more and more auction results are added and more and more people come to depend on it for information. Quite frankly, they should charge a fee for us to use it.
  • ANACONDA!!! Don't give them any ideas!!!! Free is GOOD. Fee is BAD.
  • Actually, try imaging this - a web site that you pay a monthly fee for for that not only has what the Heritage site currently has but......

has population figures from PCGS, NGC and ANACS incorporated into it.....

has bluesheet, greysheet and Trends prices incorporated into it.....

has auction results from Heritage as well as Bowers and Merena, Superior, Teletrade and other auction companies in it.....

has a master want list that not only shows all of the above coins and values but shows who is looking for them and the range of grades and prices they're willing to pay....

and more! Let your imagination run wild.....all it would take would be a point man to put it together and more money in the form of monthly payments by the users.

Yes, maybe not all of it could be incorporated into the Heritage site but I would be willing to pay good money to have all this info and more in one easy to use place and Heritage could be the folks to put it together.

Some businesses not wanting to put their info on the Heritage site would be the real losers. Heritage could use the money they collect from us for monthly user fees and pay the various entities to have the info on the paid heritage site. Some businesses might actually provide the info for free, others would want to be paid, others wouldn't want their info on the Heritage site.

  • I've said it before, I am very appreciative of the Heritage site. And I am of this one, also. That I can spend my free time mucking around on both for the mind boggling price of "free" is something I don't want to take for granted.

I'm with BigE5 on this one. I think they're a great company, but I'll be even happier with them when they straighten out my latest invoices and send me the coins!

They absolutely rule, I'll allow for a mishmash here and there, in the end they always fix it or nix it! They rightfully deserve the business we give them, actually I believe they contribute more to all of us then we're willing to admit. I don't know about others but I don't buy anything until I totally study it on their site. If your a smart buyer, you'd do the same. For accuracy sake you may want to double check or cross reference from time to time........Charge, no they wouldn't do such a dumb move...why they know how much business they get from all of us because they are what they isimage

I think that if you use the Heritage archives as a ruler to price your coins, you are doing yourself a disservice. You'll throw out the "shot upgrades" as flukes, and end up with underpriced sales as comps, imho.
  • I'll second all of the positive comments. Heritage is always responsive - a very well run company. And the size of their catalogs auction after auction proves it. image

I'm with Anaconda - put it all in one site and I'll pay the fee! Perhaps waive the fee for $X purchased/year?????

Another site I use is Askart.com. They have prices realized on art work, biographies, art for sale, art wanted, museums featuring the artist, dealers specializing in this artist, etc. It's worth the subscription price (started as a free service until they got rolling and I got hooked - now $20/month.)

Time is money and a site that saves time is worth money.

This is an interesting thread since prior threads about Heritage often had a negative slant.
Heritage is a very well run big (BIG) coin operation. Their web site is the gold standard for the industry. Their auctions handle a significant share of the rare coin inventory. They are professional and provide good service. As would be expected from such a large organization , bigness results in some loss of intimacy. if contacted however they will accomodate you.
