Another horrible overbid

I love the Peace dollars and bought a 1927-D in MS64 NGC for $365. It is beautiful and so close to a 65 but 1 mark on the face keeps it at 64. I saw this one in MS65 and watched it to see how high it would go.
1927-D

This one doesn't look bad in the scan but I would have to see it to really tell. If it is just a 64, they paid a horrible price. I know there are many post against this company so I doubt the grade is accurate. It is just sad to see one go this high.

Are you referring to censles or NTC? If what other people are saying is correct, it would get bodybagged from PCGS because of cleaning.
  • An NTC 65? At BEST its a 64, more likely a 63.

One of those huge price jumps between 64 and 65 on that coin. Coin in scan looks pretty good but based upon NTC's history probably a 64 at best. Yes-- very overbid.image

image NTC junk and Centsles making out like a bandit. image

I was taken once by an NTC coin, the consesus is its an electroplated dies counterfeit - wish more people were aware of the junk they slab and of the scallywags that carry their junk. image
  • Surfaces look good, but the color (more like haze) looks funny to me. Probably doctored to tone down the excessive dipping. Someone is gonna but real upset when they get that coin in the mail. Unless they don't know how to grade their own coins and they believe the laser printed "MS-65" on the label. Do you think newbie ebay collectors are confused by the "NTC" initials, thinking that it's "NGC"??
  • Wow, I never thought it would be so easy to make big money in this hobby. So I should go to the San Jose show tomorrow, buy all the PCGS and NGC 63's and 64's I can find, cross'em and make a ton. St. Thomas here I come.

  • Buy from Centles any non NGC / PCGS slab and you can subtract 10pts+ on the grade! Some people have zero ethics and theyare almost as bad as ACG.
  • Here is another auction that is a little out of the zone. There are still a few minutes left for those interested,

i have a 34 that is ultra clean, completely mark free. unfortunately next to all my other peaces, that sucker would get bagged for cleaning in a second - and the surfaces look just like that one.

    I looked at the coin.
    A few caveats:
I do not collect Peace $
I have never bought or heard of Centsles.
I have never bought a coin slabbed by NTC.
I do not buy coins on E-Bay

I have no quarrel with those who have are suspicious based on experience of a coin from this seller and slabbing service. There are reasons why NTC is not a first flight or even second tier grading service. Strangely despite the comments about the seller there seems to be few "negatives".
I agree that the coin may be a point overgraded but I do not appreciate from this scan that the coin has been cleaned and deserves a bodybag. This could change with an in hand view of the field region in front of the face but lets judge the coin not its label.

my advice: stay away from centsles.
