What's up with this 1904 IH Cent?

The one on the left. It's smaller than a regular cent (on right) and its rim is really thick and overhanging the wording on the coin. Sorry for the blurry image, but you get the idea...

  • It could possibly be a capped die coin.

It's a damaged coin. The edges have been machine rolled.

    Sorry, it's just a cull.

I'd have to agree with Bill Jones. I believe the coin left the Mint as a normal coin because of the sharpness of the features within the non-rolled portion and that it was subsequently damaged after entering circulation. The edges also appear to be squared off much more than I would expect from a Mint error. Cull.

  • Possibly the begining of a ring coin? Tap the edge until it starts to look like the coin pictured,
keep going until you basically turn it inside out.

  • Thank you all for your responses. It was educational. Benloe, you probably are right based on others replies, someone was trying to make a ring or something. Thanks to all.
