Did they any make Morgans out of Gold?

They must have cause I found this one today. It's in one of them NGC thingies and has a star on it. I think that must be 'cause the original holder got broked or scratched or somtin' and they put a new holder 'round it and put the star on there to show it is "replacement" holder least 'ways that's what I heard before. I learnt all about stars when I was clecting paper money but forgit most of what I learnt.

MacCoin, he is referring to US currency star notes which are replacements for damaged bills. mike

The star in this case is that a Sac was submitted and came back as a nicely toned Morgan.imageimage

That's a very nice coin with an unusual monochromatic color. Is the reverse white?

Yes, the reverse is white. I won't include a pic so the thread will load faster, but, here's a link to the reverse:

It took a very special set of circumstances for that to occur. Monochromatic toning is actually more rare than one might think although not necessarily suited to everyone's taste.

There were a great quantity of Morgans that were gold plated on the obverse and mounted in belt buckles some 20 years ago.... that is probably one that was 'cracked out'..... I know this to be a fact.. they sold them in airports and elsewhere.. I bought one (still have the Morgan). Cheers, RickO
