There was a fantastic new book being sold at FUN - the 100 greatest coins. It was a coffee table style book with large, full color pictures to make you drool! I ordered 10 copies!

Can we get some detail so that we can order it ourselves, if it is as good as you say it is?

The name of the book is "100 Greatest U.S. Coins" by Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth. It has full color pictures for each of the top 100 US coins. The coins were voted on by members of the PNG and aren't necessarily ranked by price or rarity. The 1913 lib nickel is number two, the 1885 trade dollar is number 10, the 1838-O half is number 19 and the 1884 trade dollar is nuber 40. A surprise to me is the 1870-S dollar is number 84! Behind the 1851 and 1852!

Have checked both goggle and Amazon.com and neither list Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth's new book, 100 Greatest U.S. Coins. Could you provide the name, phone number or other info for the person or company offering it for sale at FUN? Much appreciated.

I received an email from Tom Mulvaney:

Jeff Garrett asked me to respond to your inquiry about our new book. I was
the photo editor for the book and work closely with Jeff.

This book JUST came off the presses early last week. I am not sure it is
even listed in the HE Harris website yet. It will be widely advertised in
the Numismatic press very shortly and will be available nationwide in all
    leading bookstores.

Here are some other links that might help you...

Bear in mind...The order fulfillment folks may not even know about this book
yet. The copies that were sold at FUN came directly from the publisher to
the FUN show. I suspect it will be a month or so before the distribution
pipeline is flowing. We do not even have copies in our Kentucky office at
    this time.

Keep checking for it - I highly recommend it as an introduction to the best coins in American numismatics!

I thought you were going to mention Doug Winter's new book on Type I Liberty Double Eagles.
  • How much is the book? I thought you were going to tell us the new cherrypickers guide came out.

List price is $29.95 - the reason I bought 10 is because there was a quantity discount of 50% for 10 or more. I couldn't resist buying one for George and Laura to commemorate the 1913 (number two in the book). The balance of 7 is on order.

H.E. Harris has a half page ad for the book in this week's CW. Page 32 Jan 27. issue.
