Just came back from the reception. It was really nice and got to meet alot of people that I have talked too, but never met before. David Hall gave a short talk and answered questions about future changes in the registry and gave a talk on the whole formation of the registry idea.
Plenty of food and drinks with a great atmosphere in the hotel conference room. BJ took some photos, so she may post them in the future. Yes Spooly, Carol was there.
One note: I got to be the lucky person to draw the names for a 8 ounce silver medal donated to the reception. As luck would have it, I pulled my own and Carol made me re-draw thinking I rigged it. No Good Guy would do that! Now she really owes me a PCGS slab with pizza sauce in it. I had a great time, thanks PCGS.

All in all it was a pleasant meeting, still have nothing new resolved...but they are working on it.
(Hey David...still would like a straight answer.....CONSERVATION???) Just kidding, I know you are considering this.
I will get back later on ....

I'm not that shallow.I would have been trying to bribe my way into completion of my Registry Set.
It would have been great to meet some more of the board members as well.

Maybe next year I'll get there on time, and get all the way around the room.
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
I was there, and it seemed like the drawing was legitimate, but if I'd drawn my own name, I probably would have given it up, too. Thanks for being a good sport about it.
For those who couldn't make it, David Hall asked how we felt about weighting sets, and whether varieties should be included. The consensus seemed to be that weighting was a good idea, but it should come as no surprise that the attendees were fairly evenly divided on the subject of varieties (Should all varieties be included? Only major ones? Just those listed in the Red Book? Just those recognized by PCGS?) Several opinions were offered, but there was no agreement. David also told a story about the origin of the Registry. The concept was first used for sportscards, and later applied to coins.
The reception was a good opportunity to meet other Registry participants, BJ, Carol, David Hall, and several well-known dealers (Rick Snow and Rick Tomaska among them). The Merc crowd was well-represented, as were Indian Head cent, Lincoln cent, and Washington quarter collectors. Owners of some of the top sets were there: Bill Walser, Stewart Blay, Steve Stokely, and the owner of the Joshua/Ally sets. I spoke with BJ on Saturday, and she was thinking of topics that could be of interest for the Registry group at the summer ANA convention in Baltimore. Don't know if I'll make it there, but I'd sure like to. The FUN show was fun!
