Should I sell my PCGS MS67RD 1958-D POP 24 Lincoln?

mrpaseomrpaseo Posts: 4,753 ✭✭✭
The way I see it, by the time I get to finish this set, there will be many more PCGS MS67RD 1958-D Lincolns. Yes, I have one now, and will probably not be able to afford one in the future, but I could probably pick up a nice MS66RD and use the rest to either buy a few more MS66RD's or catch up on my Investments or maybe pay some of that Christmas debt...Of which I will NEVER do again!

So, what is your opinion?

There's still upward pressure on that date, Ray. I'd hang on to it for awhile, and see what happens. Or maybe Placid's right. image

Interesting question. If you love the coin, maybe keep it. But if you're looking to do something else perhaps it's time to sell it. Similar type of conundrum I'm choosing to look at.
  • You know, I've been debating selling off all of my 1934-1958 Lincolns and putting the money toward something else. Most of them (with a few execptions) appear to be common enough that I can pick them up later at $20 a pop or less. Maybe Lincolns will have cooled down by then.

i would say sell it, if you think about it it's only 1 point different, mabe if you broke it out and sent it in again it would come back as a 66. sell it buy a 66 and have lots of money to buy some other coins.

Better than selling when there's downward pressure. image
  • Its not that easy of a date to make in MS67. The coin is worth over $500 and with that kind of money after them I would think that people would be sending in hoards to make 67. In the past 3 months there have been 26 58-D's graded MS66 and none graded 67. I am sure in todays climate that the 66's were not bad coins so I don't see the POP climbing, which IMO makes the coin a decent one to save.
  • I think you answered your own question in your first sentence.

  • Wow, that's reviving an old thread!
  • It`s a gamble for sure. That coin is not as easy to make in that grade as you may think. If you are in the coin at a nice price I would say keep it. It has been my experience that if I had to think really hard about selling a coin and decide to sell it, I usually regretted the sale.
  • Sell the 67RD and buy a nice 66RD for alot less.

That the question is even asked implies that you are asking about the investment
or price potential of the coin in the future. If one needed a coin for a set or didn't
care what price it would bring in the future then he wouldn't ask.

I know very little about the difficulty of finding this coin in MS-67. I don't know much
more about the state of the wheat cent market. But I do know that the investments
and collectables which do best are those that no one likes. On this basis it sounds
    like a solid buy rather.

If your MS67 is superior for the grade, keep it. It's better, IMHO, to have one of something REAL NICE than ten of the undergrades.

If it's just average for an MS67 and nothing special (or, you're unhappy with it for any reason, valid or not) then sell it and find that PQ MS66, spending the balance on other coins you love.

Sell the coin. When the price drops, as you expect, then buy another and use the savings for something else. Or, when the price drops, buy an MS66 because that will also have dropped in price.

If you are wrong about the price dropping, then what have you lost? You still made a profit!

  • Sell it to me..........I can always use an extra 58-D as trading material towards something that I need! There is demand out there for that coin. PM sent.
